This allows us to revisit topics, which has a huge impact on gaining long term knowledge retention as well as depth of understanding. Students who have followed this plan feel ready and confident in the days previous to the exam.

As to tuition arrangements:

Firstly, we will discuss your goals and any areas where you particularly want to improve. We will plan the first lesson and I will inform you about some simple resources to be ready to start. We normally set up some homework to be submitted before the first lesson but this depends on the student's needs.

Subsequently I will enrol you into an online classroom designed for uploading resources, submitting homework and receiving specific feedback on it. The next step is our first lesson, where you will have a very active role and get practice, tips and continuous feedback. Following I will set you targeted homework to cement your knowledge. If after the first lesson you are not fully satisfied, you will get all the lesson fee back.

I follow the spiral learning approach and aim to review topics with my students several times to enhance their depth and long term retention of knowledge.

In addition to be keen on developing students' academic skills, I equally work on improving their attitudes towards learning, e.g. I train them to accept mistakes with a positive mindset, and use them as highly valuable learning experience in their journey. If you needed a doctor, dentist or lawyer then you would want someone who was fully qualified and very experienced. So don't settle for anything less when you need a tutor. To get the best out of your tutoring, and hence the exam grades you want, make sure that you are getting the following:

1. Someone who will sit beside you and teach you in person. If the covid-19 pandemic has taught us anything then it has taught us that online tutoring can't hold a candle to having a teacher in the same room as you.

2. Insist on someone who is a qualified teacher. Just because someone has passed a few exams themselves doesn't mean that they will be able to teach their subject well. That's precisely why we have teacher training, to help people learn how best to convey that knowledge to others.

3. Insist on someone with plenty of experience. Practice may not make perfect, but it usually does make one a lot better, and this is often the case in teaching.

4. It's very important that a tutor knows their subjects very well and really enjoys them. Without both of these they are never going to be a good teacher.

Let's see how I measure up to these criteria. Well, I only teach in person, and from my home. On several occasions I have been offered online work, but always refused it, as I really do believe that I would be offering students a much inferior service. I have a Joint Honours B.Sc. in chemistry and physics, and for my PGCE my main subject was mathematics, and my secondary subject was physics. So I am well qualified in all the subjects that I offer: maths, further mathematics, chemistry and physics. My PGCE is from the University of Leeds, which has a very good reputation for its teacher training. I also have many years classroom and tutoring experience. As for knowing and enjoying my subjects, those who come to me for tutoring can see my large collection of maths, chemistry and physics books. I have also had a subscription to Scientific American for decades. I read maths and science for fun. Maybe that's why I gave up a very lucrative career as a software engineer to become a teacher. This is also why usually I only offer tutoring at A-level or equivalent, because I particularly enjoy teaching at this level. However, I am currently accepting a limited number of Y11 Higher Level Maths GCSE students.

Students studying maths might also be interested to know that I have written books about the best graphics calculators and also the Classwiz. So it's very likely that I'll be able to show you how to use your calculator much more effectively, which could save you time and mistakes in your exam.

Over the years many students, and their parents, have been very happy with my tutoring. Perhaps you will be too.

Teaching Experience:
Let me be very frank. In the UK teaching in most schools is much less enjoyable than in many other countries. Behaviour, and what the school is prepared to spend on a teacher are often major issues. For students who genuinely want to learn this has serious implications. How qualified and experienced a teacher is may not be be a school's main recruitment criteria. Foremost may be their cost. A well qualified and experienced teacher will cost significantly more than a much younger one, so many older teachers' applications are often passed over. Also much greater weight may be given to classroom "management" skills, rather than the ability to teach ones subject.

Most of my time teaching in the classroom has been spent abroad, with a lot of it in private schools. For these schools neither behaviour nor salary is a major issue, so they recruit and retain teachers based on how well they can teach their subjects. This is the environment in which I have done my many years of classroom teaching. My years in the classroom have been spent in schools where ones teaching ability is paramount.

In regard to tutoring, this has been my main source of income for the past ten years, and most of this time has been spent teaching A-level, or the equivalent. It's probably fair to say that I spend many more hours teaching A-level than most classroom teachers, and as such I know what most students need, and where they are likely to experience difficulties.

I graduated in medicine from Nottingham University in 2016, switched to finance, became a qualified chartered accountant, and now work for one of the 'Big4' in health advisory and strategic consulting. Hey I'm Abdul. I'm currently studying Computer Science at the University of Leeds. I passed my 11+ and attended Wilson's School and I absolutely loved my time there. When studying for my GCSE's, I struggled quite a lot with Chemistry and so I decided to get a tutor. After a few months of receiving tuition, there was a noticeable improvement in my grades and I achieved a grade 9 in Chemistry GCSE and later on studied it for A-level and achieved a grade A. I am an aspiring Medic currently studying at Imperial College London, I have lived in London my entire life and love all parts of it. I am a judoka training many times a week looking to develop my skill and passion for the sport. I am passionate about learning as a whole and enjoy the endeavour. I have been working with children and teaching for over 20 years. I love teaching children of all ages. I really enjoy seeing children progress and their confidence grow. This is one of the reasons I really like tutoring, due to the progress being so rapid.

I also believe in understanding rather than memorizing, so I teach my students skills that will help them approach problems logically instead of just memorizing the textbook.

Hello! My name is Bea and I am 21 years old. I have just finished a degree in Biomedical Science at the University of Sheffield and am about to begin Graduate Medicine at the University of East Anglia. I strongly believe that education is an ongoing journey to discover what you feel passionate about.

Throughout school I performed well in exams, achieving 10 grade 9s at GCSE and 3 A*s at A level, as well as graduating with a first in my degree. I have always enjoyed explaining concepts to my peers and found that everyone has a different way to understand content - there is no right or wrong way to learn.

Teaching Experience:
Throughout school I was a mentor for my subjects to people in the years below and I found this very rewarding. At University, I have volunteered every week at Sheffield Mencap and Gateway's Youth group for children with learning disabilities. This has helped me massively to understand how to adapt my communication to meet each child's specific needs. We taught lots of new skills, such as baking, sports and crafts, as well as helping in standard teaching such as spelling and everyday mathematics.
