Clearly each student is different, and so the way of teaching each one will be different. However I believe that if the foundation is strong nothing can go wrong. I will first try to ensure that the concept and the base of the subject is strong before we go on to a number of past paper questions and exercises. I believe that the best way to learn is to see how any problem can be tackled, go through the thought process and then apply what you know to the specific problem and solve it.

I will first see what the student finds most difficult and what their weaknesses are and then strive to overcome them. Each student will have their own learning methods, some may learn by understanding the whole concept then going into the exam questions, some want to go through exam questions while they are learning the concept to see how the theory can be applied to the problems. Some may learn visually with experiments or examples whereas others will learn through trial and improvement of their own. I will spend the first session finding out how they like to learn and design a program just right for that individual student.

From previous experiences I believe the key areas students need help in are:
- learning the foundation of the subject
- how to manage time in exams
- how to structure their answers in an exam
- lots and lots of practice
Hopefully once we start tutoring, the students will feel much more confident with the subject and the key to success for any exam is self confidence. I will always be their as a guide, a mentor, a friend to help them through what they find difficult.

I started my career as a Chemical Engineer and completed my PhD in that subject.
In Industry I have worked on Polymers, Pharmaceuticals and ceramics. I have designed towers using principles of Maths and Science and have been able to work out, how long it will take a ceramic to reach a temperature inside a furnace.

I am a chartered engineer and I have been a part-time tutor for nearly 11 years. I achieved both my undergraduate Master's degree and PhD in mechanical engineering at Imperial College London. I mostly tutor online, and since transitioning to online tutoring as a result of COVID I have successfully provided over 100 hours of tutoring to a number of clients through online platforms. I primarily use Discord to speak with my tutee and to screenshare an exam paper or textbook, and we have used shareable online whiteboards such as Miro to write on. I am always open to trying other online platforms if they are more suited to you. As long as I can hear my student clearly then I have found online tutoring to be just as effective as in person. I am very flexible with times for lessons, including doing lessons at weekends, so please do send a message asking if I am available.

My name is Berlynn. I am currently in my second year studying chemical engineering at the University of Edinburgh. I completed my A levels in mathematics, physics and chemistry, achieving A, A and A* respectively. I am originally from South Africa.

Teaching Experience:
I have previous tutoring experience in mathematics, physics and chemistry, working with students aged 13-17.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring is interactive and adaptable. I like to tailor lessons to each student's learning style - whether that is through worked examples, visual explanations, or discussion-based learning. I aim to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable and encouraged. I strive to build the student's confidence, and help them to develop a deeper understanding of the subject.
