I currently lecture at the University of Salford and have over 28 years of teaching experience. I'm a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a Visiting Lecturer at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, and also teach in São Paulo, Brazil. The first session will include an informal discussion with parents/tutee to gain an understanding of the tutee's requirements and to explain my role and how I can aid learning. The tutee largely dictates the structure of the sessions, including the subjects they wish to focus on and their preferred learning style, which can be discussed during the first session. As the student develops, the structure can be adapted accordingly.

I believe in a structured hour of work where the pupil is thoroughly engaged throughout the session. I think that there is a lot of importance in learning 'discovery' which is where the pupil is not spoon-fed information, but rather encouraged to try and work out patterns in the language e.g. grammar. Currently, I work as a Consultant in the Digital Transformation space. I have always been interested in teaching, from my GCSE years, I began helping my friends with their school work. Moving to A level years I started helping out some of the teachers in my school to run after school sessions to help kids with their Homework. I will first try to ensure that the concept and the base of the subject is strong before we go on to a number of past paper questions and exercises. I believe that the best way to learn is to see how any problem can be tackled, go through the thought process and then apply what you know to the specific problem and solve it.

I will first see what the student finds most difficult and what their weaknesses are and then strive to overcome them. Some may learn visually with experiments or examples whereas others will learn through trial and improvement of their own. When attending Sixth Form College of Farnborough, I tutored AS Chemistry students from 2013 to 2014. This tuition was set up by the college in order to help new students understand difficult questions, equations or coursework. With biology and chemistry, I believe it is vital to understand basic concepts before learning anything in a higher level of detail. Due to this, I believe it is important for tutees to be taught the basics of a topic before learning detail.
If the tutee seems comfortable with a topic and would just like to consolidate, I would test them with some questions from either past papers or textbooks. This will ensure that, they are able to apply their knowledge.

Also, I believe memorizing key terms and definitions is very useful in exams so I use flashcards or small tests during the beginning or end of the tuition session to test their understanding and make sure that they learn these key words and definitions.

I am a UK qualified teacher with 20+ years' teaching experience. I graduated from Loughborough University with a BSc (Hons) in Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry in 2003 and a year later completed my Post Graduate Certificate in Education at the same university. I have taught in 3 secondary schools located in Buckinghamshire and Derbyshire. My first language is English.

I currently teach all GCSE sciences as well as Year 12 and Year 13 A Level Chemistry at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School in Ashbourne, Derbyshire. I am a designated Advanced Skills Teacher; recognition of my outstanding classroom practice and the excellent results that this generates for the young people I teach. I work for the Cambridge International Exam Board, being an experienced marker of A Level chemistry. For example, I encourage students to underline keywords in questions and, particularly in maths and science, to draw diagrams to help them visualise problems. When it comes to exam technique I teach students precisely how to answer certain styles of question to score full marks and show as much working wherever possible. This is not only a very important skill to have to get good grades, but it will help them develop more of an understanding of the problems they are solving.

I am currently a graduate student in Psychiatry at the University of Oxford. As a curious and driven learner, I am eager to teach what I have learned, as well as learn from those I teach.

Hey I'm Abdul. I'm currently studying Computer Science at the University of Leeds. I passed my 11+ and attended Wilson's School and I absolutely loved my time there. When studying for my GCSE's, I struggled quite a lot with Chemistry and so I decided to get a tutor. After a few months of receiving tuition, there was a noticeable improvement in my grades and I achieved a grade 9 in Chemistry GCSE and later on studied it for A-level and achieved a grade A. I was very thankful to my tutors and teachers as I could not have done well in my studies without them.

During my time at sixth form, I volunteered to tutor GCSE students in my school. I later on taught some students outside of school for 1 year and it allowed me to build a long term relationship with my students and be able to actually see improvements in their grades and confidence in that subject. This was an extremely rewarding feeling for me and is what motivates me as a tutor.

I ask my students about their weakest areas of subject knowledge and plan my lessons from there. I have been teaching since my sister was learning to talk but I first started as a private tutor at age 14. I was lucky enough to teach a class of 30 girls just after I did my GCSEs at age 17, and from there I went on to start my own business.

My teaching style changes depending on every student I face. I would identify as having the facilitator style which is someone who encourages self-learning by asking the student questions rather than telling them the answer.

Hi, my name is Maahi, and I am currently a student at St Dominic's 6th form, studying Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics at a level. I received an outstanding set of GCSE grades and my set of results was even published in the school newspaper. I like helping younger students in any way possible, in year 10, I helped those who have come from foreign countries or have a lower reading level and have difficulty reading to become fluent readers through a 'reading buddies' programme. That was when I realised that I am good at teaching and helping students. After that I tutored the younger children in family and friends and helped them get amazing grades for SAT'S and gcse's and I want to extend this to everyone that wants to receive good grades and achieve their dreams.
