I am a 26 year old living in Feltham, I work full time as a Disability Advisor and Autism Specialist Mentor supporting higher education students to access reasonable adjustments, provide pastoral support and advice. I am currently studying Biology, Psychology and English Literature at Churston Ferrers Grammar School in the UK and have a strong passion for my studies.
I'm very much into my sport and exercise, I play wheelchair basketball for Plymouth Fusion and enjoy going to the gym a few times a week for how it makes me feel. At secondary school, I was a Peer Mentor for 2 GCSE students in Biology and Chemistry. We met weekly in the build up to their exams and went over topics they struggled with and I brought some of my own materials along to test their knowledge after we had discussed their mistakes. I learnt a great deal about different teaching styles from both students and how to be adaptable when the topic of discussion changed quickly. Additionally, for 2 years every week, I volunteered to teach disabled children how to swim at my local pool. This was a wonderful experience and developed my communication skills immensely as I had to cater to a wide range of disabilities. I was very thankful to my tutors and teachers as I could not have done well in my studies without them.

During my time at sixth form, I volunteered to tutor GCSE students in my school. I later on taught some students outside of school for 1 year and it allowed me to build a long term relationship with my students and be able to actually see improvements in their grades and confidence in that subject. This was an extremely rewarding feeling for me and is what motivates me as a tutor.

In my free time, I like to play badminton and spend time with friends and family.

**Volunteer Mentor at Wilson's School (6 months) & Private Tutoring outside of school (2 years)**

- Regularly mentored GCSE students, personalising lessons based on individual needs and abilities, which improved their comprehension and academic performance. After around 3 months of this, the students confirmed they had seen at least a 1 grade improvement from grade 7's to grade 8's and 9's.
- Created a supportive and nurturing learning environment, instilling confidence and motivating students who initially struggled to see the value in their education

Tutoring Approach:
I ask my students about their weakest areas of subject knowledge and plan my lessons from there. Moreover, I engage with my students by asking them questions to ensure they are understanding everything. When showing them a subject specific question, I make sure it's from their exam board and is from past papers so they are able to answer similar questions in their exams.

Hello! I am fully qualified to teach Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths up to GCSE, as well as Biology to A level. If your child needs extra help understanding concepts, catching up with work missed or with exam technique, I can help.

Let's have a chat about how your child is getting on at school, how they learn and what they are struggling with. If they are feeling overwhelmed and confused I can help them get clarity and regain control over their school work. I know the curriculum really well and can identify where they have gaps in their knowledge and target those areas. I will reinforce the fundamental principles in cases where basic learning has been forgotten or missed.

I will tailor my lessons strategically so that the greatest achievement is managed in the shortest space of time. If your child has been attending school regularly, they often know way more than they realise, sometimes all they lack is clarity, practice and confidence. If your child has missed school through illness I can help them catch up. I am happy to help home-schoolers and can do various home-based science experiments to encourage engagement. Depending on your individual circumstances and what is best for your child I can arrange lessons before exams or during holidays. Oftentimes a block of six lessons, arranged weekly, is enough to get a child back on track and working without my help.

Teaching Experience:
I was awarded my PGCE in Secondary Science in 1997 with Qualified Teacher Status from Sussex University. Since then I have taught in various schools in Sussex, Essex and Bristol. I have experience with all ages and abilities at key stage 2,3 and 4.

In addition, I spent several years teaching English, History, Drama, Art+Design, Citizenship, ICT as well as Science and Maths to my tutor group as part of a year 7 Team and would be happy to help younger children generally with anything educational.

I have also taught A Level Biology both as a private tutor and at a higher education college.

Tutoring Approach:
During our lesson I would utilise a variety of different teaching tools to aid recall and stimulate brain cells: starter activities, subject games, exam questions, scientific writing, calculator practice, sequencing and comprehension activities. I will utilise the textbooks and revision guides that the student prefers.

Generally I would use examples, graphs, charts, tables, data and diagrams to encourage deeper thinking and improve skills and vocabulary. I would check that your child is familiar with the syllabus and requirements of their exam board.

Hi, I'm Nicola - a final year graduate medical student at the University of St Andrews.
I have a BSc (Hons) in Biology also from the University of St Andrews.

Teaching Experience:
I have worked as a tutor for 4 years now, and I have tutored a variety of subjects and ages, from primary to SQA highers.

Tutoring Approach:
I teach sailing during the summers to children and adults alike, so I can quickly adjust topics and lessons to be suitable for different age ranges. I love working out how each individual learns best and strive to ensure everyone I teach reaches their full potential.
