I am a student studying Biomedical Science in the University of Sunderland with an integrated placement at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. I have a passion for teaching Maths, Science and English as they were some of my favourite subjects in school, and since it hasn't been very long since I've left my secondary education, I am well versed in those three subjects, science to a further level due to my degree. I hope I can be of help to all students, as I have a very specific methodology of teaching, personalised for each student, and will be happy to have the student's input too. I teach English, Science and Maths right now to a couple students, however, some of my students have now reached University and no longer need my help. This means that I have space to take in more students for these subjects, though I can teach a range.
I have experience in teaching those younger than me in my school days, where I headed an afterschool session once a week for those who needed help with anything they were taught throughout the year. I have been taught online as well as helped students online with interview preparation. I found it incredibly fulfilling and much easier than travelling around to places, which can be difficult with those with big workloads or don't have much time during their day. I have tutored the 11+ for four years, and am familiar with all common exam boards (GL, CEM, CSSE). I am currently Head of Science at a large co-educational boarding school near Coventry. My subject specialism is Biology and I have taught A level, GCSE, Pre-U and IB Biology (HL and SL) full time for over thirty years in four leading independent schools. in the UK I have been Head of Biology departments in two of these schools, designing curricula and evaluating student outcomes.

My approach to tutoring is similar to my approach to classroom teaching. I first want to identify the specific needs and circumstances of the tutee and discover any particular topics they want to explore and any difficulties they have found in the course. Then I adopt a patient approach to building each tutee's confidence so that they feel more able to get the most from their regular classes and make the fastest progress. I like to focus on improving each student's knowledge and use of technical vocabulary so that they are able to express their ideas as clearly and precisely on paper as possible.

If a tutee is in the first year of a two year course, I focus on building their foundational knowledge and understanding. If we are in the year of their final exams, the focus will shift onto more specific exam preparation using past papers and learning from feedback.
