Personal Description:
I live in West Cornwall with my young family, and currently work as a private tutor and academic mentor. Born in Brighton, it was there in 2009 I completed my teacher training and began a career as a science teacher.

As well as my classroom teaching experience, I have worked as a laboratory researcher, science editor, and more recently as an independent advocate within the field of mental health. Additionally, I hold an undergraduate degree in genetics and a masters degree in psychology.

Teaching Experience:
I obtained a PGCE in secondary science - gaining qualified teacher status in 2009. During training, I taught at two West Sussex secondary schools. Upon qualifying, I taught at a prestigious all-girls school in central Brighton, and then subsequently at Bellerbys International College in Brighton.

My classroom experience includes teaching ages 11-18 across all three sciences (biology, chemistry, and physics) from GCSE to A-level. I also have 17 years of private tutoring experience, having tutored GCSE, A-level, and mature students. I have a very successful track record.

Tutoring Approach:
I am very friendly and approachable, and highly dedicated to my students - giving a lot of time and effort to ensure they are achieving their full potential. Within sessions, I provide solid structure and tailor my approach to their individual needs. I suggest work for completion outside of sessions and provide them with direction to develop their individual approach to learning and revision.

I am able to explain difficult concepts in an easily digested way, making learning enjoyable and confidence-boosting. I have a clear, patient manner, and an excellent grasp of my subject specialisms.

Tutoring Approach:
I am the tutor who is also the friend, always working to ensure the child learns to love the subject and want improvement for themselves, not because I demand it of them. As a result of my time, I want the child to develop positively as a person as well as within the subject we are working on.

Firstly, I will always aim to find the areas the child is having the most difficulty with and break it down to its simplest form to help them understand. Once a child has understood the basic principle of what we are learning, I aim to push them as far as I can with their learning - my memory of the best teacher's I had at school were the teacher's who pushed me even further than I needed to go, and who gave me more knowledge and information than I needed to know. I then found that I entered my exams relaxed and confident, knowing that I had excess knowledge. Rather than learning just to answer set questions in an exam, I felt I truly understood those subjects.

All that I can say is that Ellie is fantastic. When she was teaching myself and my brother A Level Chemistry, she always gave short, concise explanations of concepts in a way that we easily understood. Also, she gave us past paper questions after each topic so that we had plenty of practice at exam technique. She marked these and sent us feedback on what to improve on. This meant that when it came around to do our exams, we were fully prepared for them and confident that we could do well. During lockdown, she was very flexible as she either had online lessons with us or set us exam papers that she marked and sent back to us with details on how to improve. I believe in a structured hour of work where the pupil is thoroughly engaged throughout the session. I think that there is a lot of importance in learning 'discovery' which is where the pupil is not spoon-fed information, but rather encouraged to try and work out patterns in the language e.g. grammar. I also think grammar is an important part of learning Spanish language due to all of the verb conjugations and gender agreements etc. Homework is also important as doing a little each day is definitely one of the best ways to learn.

Tutoring Approach:
I have a Masters in Applied Positive Psychology and my tutoring approach is a student-centred one. My experience covers tutoring, mentoring and coaching and I use a combination of the three in my work.

I am yet to come across a student who doesn't possess the potential to improve. More often than not, it is the large class sizes at school, or a teacher whose approach isn't the right fit, which explains why a student doesn't understand a particular subject, or particular topics within that subject.

Through the 1-to-1 work I do with students, not only have I witnessed some remarkable grade improvements but also some amazing transformations in confidence. I strongly feel that the work I do is more than merely improving grades for exams.

⭐ My philosophy is that if you are struggling with a particular subject or topic, it's not your fault and there's nothing wrong with you. It simply means you've not been taught in a way that makes sense to you (or you've not been given the time and attention to be taught properly - in a big class and with the pressures on teachers to deliver an extensive curriculum).

⭐ I'm based near Twickenham/Teddington/Kingston and offer tutoring in-person and online (my preference is in-person where possible, as this tends to work best for the tutoring relationship and the outcomes that can be achieved).

The following year I completed my PGCE in Canterbury and then began my 32 year teaching career. During this time I had my own family and now have two grown up children both in their twenties. In my spare time I enjoy swimming, cooking, gardening and decorating my new house.

I have thirty two years teaching experience having taught in four different secondary schools in Kent during my career. I have taught science for over thirty of these and I am predominately a Physics specialist having taught up to A level. I have taught combined science courses along with core and additional science courses. This involves teaching Biology, Chemistry and Physics all up to GCSE level. I have held various managerial positions including being a Head of Department and been responsible for examination entries and moderation of coursework.

I am a graduate of University of Southampton and Queen Mary University of London. I recieved a BSc in Biomedical Science and an MSc in Forensic Medical Science at both of these universities (respectively). Since graduation, I have been volunteering to work with a few GCSE students, focusing on improving their grades and understanding of Maths and Biology. I am most passionate about biology, particularly human biology, physiology, and anatomy and this is where my strengths lie within biology. In my own experience, letting students inform me of their preferred learning style and adjusting accordingly has been the most effective approach to learning. I am always happy to provide extra resources and practice questions based on the topic we have studied. I am a big advocate for education and I believe that no matter your background, you should have equal access and opportunities for learning.

Hi, my name is Maahi, and I am currently a student at St Dominic's 6th form, studying Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics at a level. I received an outstanding set of GCSE grades and my set of results was even published in the school newspaper. I like helping younger students in any way possible, in year 10, I helped those who have come from foreign countries or have a lower reading level and have difficulty reading to become fluent readers through a 'reading buddies' programme. That was when I realised that I am good at teaching and helping students. After that I tutored the younger children in family and friends and helped them get amazing grades for SAT'S and gcse's and I want to extend this to everyone that wants to receive good grades and achieve their dreams. I'm Ela and I'm a second year chemical engineering student at the University of Bath. I have always loved working with younger people and teaching. I am fluent in both Turkish and English so I can tutor in both languages!

I have tutored maths and chemistry previously in my school, helping students do the questions they struggle with and go through topics they can't wrap their heads around. Alongside my degree I also coach gymnastics to children of different levels and ages.
