My name is Kateryna and I am currently studying at Aston University, Birmingham where I am completing my Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience. Prior to my University studies, I attended Adams' Grammar School in Newport, Shropshire where I completed my A-Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. In addition to my studies at University, I work part-time as a domiciliary care worker, working with senior adults in their homes to ensure they live as independently as possible.

In terms of my interests outside of studying and working, I love all things outdoors- in particular walking and biking. In the summer months I take great joy in watersport activities such as, wakeboarding and bodyboarding.

Teaching Experience:
Whilst being a student myself, I have tutored first year BSc Neuroscience university students during the course of their first year in order to bridge any gaps in their knowledge of first year content. Also, whilst I was a sixth-form student in my second year I tutored lower-sixth A-Level Biology students .

Tutoring Approach:
Having experienced tutoring myself in both A-Level Chemistry and Physics, I have great insight into what I believe makes a good tutor and what tutees who do require additional support actually want from their tutor.
In my opinion, my approach to being a successful tutor is building confidence in tutees by exploring what they already are successful in to encourage the idea that requiring additional help is perfectly normal and nothing to be insecure about as they can already prove to themselves that they flourish already in other parts of academia. However, once we have identified areas of a subject that they feel not so confident in, my approach is to tackle the basics first, from which more detail can be brought about with ease. I have been teaching since my sister was learning to talk but I first started as a private tutor at age 14. I was lucky enough to teach a class of 30 girls just after I did my GCSEs at age 17, and from there I went on to start my own business.

I worked for myself as a private maths tutor for 3 years before working at London School or Science and Technology and I am now back to private tutoring.

Tutoring Approach:
My teaching style changes depending on every student I face. I would identify as having the facilitator style which is someone who encourages self-learning by asking the student questions rather than telling them the answer.

I also specialise in last minute GCSE revision where I am able to make the subject matter seem much simpler than how it is explained in many schools.

I have done a huge amount of work with ADHD and dyslexic students so I have had to deal with about every behavioural issue there is with the utmost patience and I experience a lot of joy in learning how the students get to the answer.

I have created many lesson plans myself for ages 4-16, which include animated PowerPoints, mainly in maths but I am happy to create them for any subject.

I always begin with a game or a riddle just to get thinking cap on and then we will tackle a subject with an explanation and worked examples.

I am a friendly and approachable tutor with extensive experience in academia, both as a graduate teacher and a student (I'm currently a PhD Psychology student). Having completed my GCSEs, A-levels, a BSci in Psychology, an MSci in Psychological Research, and currently pursuing a PhD in Perceptual Psychology, I understand the challenges students face. I bring over four years of teaching experience as a graduate teaching assistant, specialising in guiding first-year undergraduate students who are just beginning their journey in Psychology.
