I have been a private tutor for many years now (since 2006) and have a record of 93% of my tutees so far having obtained grade A or above in the respective subjects with none of my tutees so far ever obtaining lower than B.
It all started when I was a prefect at my school and college where I used to help students of different levels (including my friends from my own year) in learning difficult topics (in maths and science) and in preparing for exams. I have also helped a few teachers several times during an actual school lesson as teacher's assistant. But most importantly, in these many years as a private tutor, I have helped a lot of pupils only do well in their GCSEs and A-level. Honest school teachers will tell you that it is the noisy and disruptive pupils that get their attention, whereas the quite shy hardworking pupils tend to get neglected. Busy school teachers just do not have the time or energy to devote to helping their quieter or weaker pupils and it is these pupils that especially benefit from extra personal tuition. On the other hand a brighter pupil may be so far ahead of his or her peers that the teacher is just not able to give them the attention they need. It is never too early to start boosting a child's education. For primary school children it is important that they get a good start to their education and do not lag behind. Hi I'm Meghavi and I am a BSc Physics graduate from Imperial College London and I have a QTS (Qualified Teaching Status) at grade 1 - Outstanding. Currently, I work as a Consultant in the Digital Transformation space. I have always been interested in teaching, from my GCSE years, I began helping my friends with their school work. Moving to A level years I started helping out some of the teachers in my school to run after school sessions to help kids with their Homework. I would say I am very patient and will sit there till the concept is clear in their minds. I am not the kind of person who gives up easily so I will do what it takes to make sure an idea or concept is understood. As a person I am very friendly and bubbly. I like to have a good laugh and I'm a good listener.

My interest in teaching began when I started helping my sister with her school work. I started teaching in 2009. I worked at Kumon (one of UK's largest supplementary education provider) for a year. Clearly each student is different, and so the way of teaching each one will be different. However I believe that if the foundation is strong nothing can go wrong. I will first try to ensure that the concept and the base of the subject is strong before we go on to a number of past paper questions and exercises. I believe that the best way to learn is to see how any problem can be tackled, go through the thought process and then apply what you know to the specific problem and solve it.

I will first see what the student finds most difficult and what their weaknesses are and then strive to overcome them. Each student will have their own learning methods, some may learn by understanding the whole concept then going into the exam questions, some want to go through exam questions while they are learning the concept to see how the theory can be applied to the problems. Some may learn visually with experiments or examples whereas others will learn through trial and improvement of their own. I will spend the first session finding out how they like to learn and design a program just right for that individual student.

From previous experiences I believe the key areas students need help in are:
- learning the foundation of the subject
- how to manage time in exams
- how to structure their answers in an exam
- lots and lots of practice
Hopefully once we start tutoring, the students will feel much more confident with the subject and the key to success for any exam is self confidence. I will always be their as a guide, a mentor, a friend to help them through what they find difficult.

Teaching Experience:
Prior to starting my physics degree at university, I worked as a teaching assistant/tutor at a secondary school during my gap year, and continued tutoring during and after university as I genuinely admire teaching maths, amongst other subjects, and I love having the opportunity to show students how exciting learning can really be. During my time teaching at a school, in addition to teaching students on an individual basis, I took on the responsibility of teaching small classes myself, and I was also a mentor to a group of Year 11 pupils, having helped them with GCSE revision every week. I also have SEN teaching experience, having worked with SEN pupils from Years 7 to 11. I have a total of 9 years experience in teaching, both in a school setting and on a private tuition basis.

Tutoring Approach:
I usually tend to approach lessons by going through the background of the topic in focus and a few worked examples before giving students questions to answer themselves and going through worked solutions. Independent practice is a key part of becoming stronger in a subject, and the more a student practices, the better they will get, and this is a truly rewarding feeling. Throughout lessons, I work with a highly friendly, approachable and patient approach to tutoring, as it is vital to ensure that my students feel comfortable to ask questions on whatever topic they may have difficulties with.
Furthermore, I aim to be as concise in my explanations as possible and I like to break down problems into manageable chunks. For example, I encourage students to underline keywords in questions and, particularly in maths and science, to draw diagrams to help them visualise problems. When it comes to exam technique I teach students precisely how to answer certain styles of question to score full marks and show as much working wherever possible. This is not only a very important skill to have to get good grades, but it will help them develop more of an understanding of the problems they are solving.

I'm 26 and recently discovered my love for tutoring after volunteering to take responsibility for my nephew's home schooling during lockdown. I currently study at The Open University towards a BSci Hons Natural Sciences degree. I have first hand experience of being the student and the tutor and found this invaluable when working with my nephew towards his learning aims.

Tutoring Approach:
I work with a high level of emotional intelligence and feel the child is happiest and most open to learning without the pressure of feeling responsible for their learning. Hello, thank you for taking the time to read my profile. My name is Mairead (pronounced ma-raid, an Irish name meaning Margaret). I am a 26 year old living in Feltham, I work full time as a Disability Advisor and Autism Specialist Mentor supporting higher education students to access reasonable adjustments, provide pastoral support and advice. I also co-run workshops and events for the university I work for. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, baking, spending time with my family, going to the gym, long walks and nature trails, swimming and arts and crafts. I am also a big fan of the cinema and watching the new films out. I graduated from Royal Holloway, University of London in 2018, with a first class honours degree in Criminology and Sociology BSc. After graduation I became a support worker supporting those with mental health issues before my current role. I have recently completed a specialist mentoring qualification. I am content working full time currently, but may do a Masters or further study in future.

Please be aware for KS1 and younger tutoring my rates are £15 per session rather than per hour, to reflect that younger children may benefit from shorter sessions, but that their sessions will still need planning and admin work.
