Personal Description:
I'm Pauline, and I specialise in French and biology. It sounds an odd combination, but read on and I'll tell you more.

For French: I'm half French, complete with both British and French passports. I am fluent in the language, having started with "survival French" at the age of five to yell at my cousins, and then studying it at both GCSE (A* grade) and A-level (A grade). I go to France regularly and enjoy reading news articles in French. For lessons, I usually mix in reading, speaking, listening and grammar, as well as some history, geography and French current affairs to bring it to life. I am also available to practice speaking French, to improve your accent. I can teach both students for exam prep and adults if you're going to France and need some help with asking for directions and a coffee/glass of wine!

For biology: I again studied at GCSE and A-level and then did three degrees in the general field of biology! My PhD was in biomechanics so I specialise in anatomy and physiology, exercise science and cardiovascular; but feel free to contact me and we can discuss what you need. I can even teach plant science! A common request is to go through past papers: often, students have a good knowledge of the subject but find it hard to answer exam questions, especially AQA. My specialty is in exam technique, helping you to understand the questions and what they're really asking for. I have a large bank of past papers and questions of all shapes and sizes that we can go through.

I'm patient and friendly and use a flexible approach so you learn at your speed. Having obtained my PhD, I can relate to students and the specific pressures they face. I am DBS checked and can supply references on request.

Lessons are £30 per hour per person and £50 for two hours, including travel in and around Newcastle. There will be a small charge to cover my fuel for a longer drive, but I'm happy to discuss.

I may not be the cheapest but I'm experienced, reliable, friendly and flexible - I'd rather be good than cheap!

At the moment I am quite near full capacity but give me a shout and I'll do my best to help.

I have been tutoring since 2008, working with a variety of ages and in a range of topics from French tuition to sports coaching. I have taught over 40 students, both school students and adults, and have excellent references.

Tutoring Approach:
I will work closely with you to achieve your goals, if that's to improve in the subject for its own sake, to pass an exam or even to be able to order in French at a restaurant. Hi, I'm a year 13 student with currently 3 offers for medicine and awaiting to hear from the 4th, I have tutored other students from year 3 up until year 9. I really enjoy working with students to help them feel more confident in their subjects. I got 9 for GCSE maths, biology, chemistry and physics and would love to help anyone that is struggling in those subjects. I got all A's in my first year of A level Chemistry, Biology and Maths and am consistently getting A*'s in the second year. I believe that tutoring should be individualized to the needs of individual students and so I do not take a blanket approach with tutoring and I prefer to discuss with my students to arrange a plan of support ideal to them. What I usually do is working 1 topic behind what they do at school and consolidating exam technique on those topics and revising them together or another way to is teach ahead of the syllabus so when they cover it in school it will be like revision for the student. As a school tutor during my A-Level studies, I have tutored GCSE students for Mathematics. I applied my patience to introduce difficult ideas carefully. In the cases for tutoring mechanics, my tutee found it difficult to identify and link various components of the forces together and to grasp the content clearly. Thus, I investigated the source of this lack of understanding then gave a clear explanation and support. Afterwards, I managed to explain various application questions using the struggling contents and interacting with my tutee (ie. asking what the next step would be) as I went through the questions to expand his understanding. I shared my method of working out the questions logically and giving clear guidance helped him greatly, hence, I was able to see improvement in his speed of understanding and solving of the questionnaires, showing a transition in his grades in Mathematics.

I believe that science can be both fun to learn and personally beneficial to anybody. As such, I will offer tutoring in the four STEM subjects I have experience in. I will also tutor English, as a good command of the language can be as critical to understanding the sciences as the arts.

Teaching Experience:
From 2013 to 2015, I tutored 13-16 year olds in Ontario Secondary School English, Math, and Basic French, oftentimes also taking the subjects that I tutored. I also tutored an 11-year-old student Primary School English and Math from 2016 - 2017.

During my second year at Imperial College, I was a Peer-Assisted Learning program mentor, where I advised ~15 first year students how to do well in Biology coursework and exams, created activities to hone scientific communication skills, and provided constructive feedback on their coursework performance if requested.

Additionally, throughout both my degree programs, I regularly presented talks on cutting-edge Biology research to fellow students and non-experts. As such, I have experience in simplifying difficult concepts to lay audiences.

I am a patient individual who will tailor tutoring sessions to address the goals, needs and learning preferences of my tutees. This is so that tutees feel comfortable yet personally engaged in their learning.

Hello, My name is Lincoln, I graduated from Heriot-Watt University with a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science. I am presently a master's student at Newcastle University, pursuing a master's in Applied Mathematics.
