I live in West Cornwall with my young family, and currently work as a private tutor and academic mentor. Born in Brighton, it was there in 2009 I completed my teacher training and began a career as a science teacher.

As well as my classroom teaching experience, I have worked as a laboratory researcher, science editor, and more recently as an independent advocate within the field of mental health. Additionally, I hold an undergraduate degree in genetics and a masters degree in psychology.

Personal Description:
I am an energetic and ambitious final year university student with five years of experience in tutoring. Italian is my first language but I am also fluent in English (IELTS level C1).
I have been an exchange student in 2016/17 in England and I obtained my AS levels. The year after I went back to Italy to complete my studies and gain the Italian Diploma di Stato, in which I scored 82/100. I was then back in England to obtain the A-level qualifications and I am now studying at University.

Teaching Experience:
I have 5 years of experience with both children and adults, both face to face and online.
My lessons are very interactive and engaging, and they are all customized based on students' needs. Tutoring is a real passion for me, so I do my very best for each student to reach his or her full potential.

Tutoring Approach:
My methodology is quite structured, but I easily adapt to students' styles and preferences.

99% of the students who come to me want to learn how to talk to people, so I am used to this request. I help them achieve this by ensuring that they know their grammar inside and out, and by supporting them with their speaking alongside it. The more we build on the grammar, the more we can build on the speaking, simultaneously. I have personally designed 4 levels of speaking, so the activities vary based on the level the student is in and build up smoothly.
For students who are interested in long-term tutoring, I often recommend a textbook to use along with my slides. I also make use of WhatsApp to send recordings if the student is struggling with pronunciation.

Most people appreciate the importance of knowing some basic grammar before they can practice speaking, and they are open to trusting me to fill in their knowledge gaps first. Once that's done (usually after 5-6 sessions if you start from zero), I introduce them to my "level 1" speaking practice, which is about describing a picture or something that they can visually see, in short, disconnected sentences. "Level 2" would be to try and get that speech to flow a little bit better by using pronouns and particles to avoid repetition. "Level 3" would be to add a bit of made-up background to that picture. For example, if they see that the table is laid but an object is missing, such as cutlery, they can try and think of why that could be (e.g. the man forgot to put the cutlery on the table). "Level 4" will involve describing procedures or things that they can partially visualize, or that are completely abstract, for example, describing every single action taken to make a cake, or talking about a past holiday. Lastly, "level 5" involves debating about current issues or picking a topic, establishing that we have two different opinions, and the student has to try to convince me of theirs.
These "levels" vary from person to person but it provides at least an idea of how the speech develops alongside the grammar, which is present in every session.

I am a passionate and dedicated tutor, with a wealth of experience in both tutoring and teaching in schools, after having trained as a primary school teacher. Tutoring Approach:
Parents generally find that I am a very calm and pacient tutor; I like to work at the pupil's pace and provide lots of reward, especially for the younger children (like stickers and prizes). If I find that the student needs some more help outside of my paid hourly time, I give extra time, to ensure that they have learnt the skills to the highest standard possible.

I have a lesson plan ready prior to the session, but am generally flexible in my approach to the content I teach; sometimes, the lesson focuses on helping the child with their homework or reviewing a test paper from school. To ensure learning is as enjoyable and interactive as possible, I have whiteboards that children use to brainstorm ideas or sometimes, for instance, I encourage them to use coloured card to create their own writing checklists.

As I am writing my own book based on my school, teaching experiences, my tutoring skills are derived from the wealth of experience I gained from training courses and teaching within schools.

In 2016, I set up my own tuition company and currently operate this full-time. Tuition has an advantage over teaching in that it enables me to better help students on an individual basis. This level of help is often difficult to achieve in a classroom environment, which can be very frustrating for both the teacher and student. I am a medical student studying in the United Kingdom. I achieved the top grades in my Biology, Chemistry and Law A-levels, and I have a proficient understanding of the A-level curriculum and teaching. I am now tutoring A-level students alongside studying my medical degree, and I am available for 1:1 teaching sessions for A-level students (year 1 or year 2).

Teaching Experience:
I have taught other students biology, chemistry and law throughout my own studying of those subjects at A-level. Since starting at medical school, I have began tutoring students online for their A-levels. The students of mine who I assisted during A-levels have gone on to achieve top grades, and those that did not achieve the highest grades boosted theirs by at least 2 (e.g. E grade to C grade, or C grade to A grade). Hi I'm Elise! A second year environmental science student at Lancaster University. I have a wide range of science knowledge and am excited to begin sharing and supporting GCSE aged pupils grow in their knowledge and interest of the sciences as well! Outside of tutoring, I spend lots of my time playing the flute, reading, and hiking! I'm looking forward to beginning this tutoring journey in a fun, creative and beneficial way .

Teaching Experience:
I have experience tutoring one to one close friends and family but I believe I am suited to further tutoring since I already have quite a lot of experience in supporting and facilitating young people in scouting since I am an experienced scout leader in the Winchester district. I also would say I have a recent and relevant understanding of the GCSE syllabus and examinations, especially in the sciences since I am currently taking a Bsc Environmental Science degree and my passion for science has only grown since I took my GCSE's.
