A true renaissance man, Alex makes: mini epic films, video installations, games, photographs, sculpture, blogs and books. Using readily available materials and software the work often has a feeling of improvisation, an initial throwaway idea made visible.

Throughout his practice there is a sense of an acceptance of failure or disappointment as important parts of the human condition. He makes light with big issues and is, in turn, haunting and funny. His humorous sculpture typically conveys a sense of the accidental, eternally on the brink of failure or collapse. Recent DIY apocalypses, created from expanding builders' foam, seem to have an unruly, malevolent life of their own and explore the processes of invasion and infection. While his films and writing play with ideas of chance, quotidian struggles, the loss of control and responsibility.

Particular strengths of mine are life drawing and painting. I also have skills in textiles, quilt making, sewing and other crafts. I often like to introduce my students to new ways of working by combining media in creative ways. I have a PGCE in Secondary Art and Design as well as an MA in Art and Design in Education. I enjoy the creative process, especially when it is shared with others and I pride myself on helping students achieve the highest levels in public examinations. My students regularly achieve A*/level 9 and in the June 2024 series one of my A level students was commended as receiving one of the highest marks in the country from the exam board OCR. I graduated from Wimbledon College of Art, (UAL) in 2012 with an MA in Fine Art and in 2011 with a BA in Fine Art.

I exhibit in London and regional group exhibitions.

I have been drawing and painting professionally for 14 years. Most of the time I am creating my paintings with pastels and throughout my carrier as an artist, I learned quite a lot about this medium and how to use it to achieve the desired results. I also work with oils. But my private lessons will be concentrated on creating pastel artworks.
I am specializing in pet portraits but I also have done quite a lot of people's portraits and landscapes.

Ive always been really passionate and enthusiastic about art with a focus on work that tells a story, which is what drew me towards studying illustration. Ive worked with a range of ages right the way through from early high school to portfolio preparation and being a graduate myself i understand what is required for university level portfolios as well as high school examination boards. I have also worked with younger children to make art an interesting and engaging subject focusing on teaching fundamentals but through a lens they find interesting and engaging.

A friendly and relaxed approach looking to ensure that you have an understanding of fundamentals and help to create a portfolio or to complete course/school work to a standard that is both professional but also reflects your interests and gives you a folio of work you're really happy with. While the fundamentals are obviously important im far more interested in helping to cultivate interest and enthusiasm rather than tutoring in a very dry archaic manner.
