I am a recently retired teacher with over 30 years combined experience in further education, independent and maintained secondary schools. I am now based in a beautiful part of Norfolk, where I paint, give private tuition and run an art club.
My own work is based on observations of mans' intervention in the landscape. I work in oils, water colour, digital photography and print.
My interests in art and design are many and varied, and include, in no particular order, sculpture/ceramics (Moore, Gormley, Perry), photography (Cartier-Bresson and LaChapelle), graphic design (Brody, Bauhaus), and painting (Freud, Klimt, Giotto, Picasso).

Teaching Experience:
My first foray into teaching was in further education as a visiting lecturer in graphic design and illustration. Subsequently, I trained as a secondary school teacher and quickly became head of my first department in a boys grammar school. From there I moved into the independent sector, continuing to work successfully as head of department and head of faculty.
I have extensive experience as a senior regional moderator for GCSE examinations in art and design with a leading examinations board, being responsible for supervising the work of a team of visiting moderators in the south east of England, and for resolving disputes with schools. I do voluntary work for the National Trust, giving occasional talks to schools on symbolism in Tudor portraits.

Having started my career as a graphic designer I had, by necessity, to broaden my experience and skills into other two and three-dimensional media in order to become a successful teacher. My departments had outstanding results at GCSE and A-level, and many of my students went on to study at many of the principal art institutions, including Central St Martins, Chelsea, Glasgow, Edinburgh.
Teaching is about finding the unique personality of the individual and finding ways to encourage its expression. I am passionate about creativity and am an artist and ceramicist, I also work freelance as a printmaker's assistant so I have a wide range of skills. I have worked for many years as an art educator, I am an A level moderator for an exam board which allows me to see work from around the country and enhances my professional development. I have also worked for a charity providing art programmes for those living with mental health challenges and this is an area I have really enjoyed.

Teaching Experience:
I have been an Art and Design teacher for many years working with young people from primary and secondary school age along with lecturing at FE level. I have experience working in a wide range of materials and encourage critical thinking and independent research skills. I am able to work with those who wish to use art for wellbeing alongside tutoring those working towards formal examinations; GCSE/A level/BTec. I have also worked with adults living with mental health charities and provided art workshops in the local community. Within the educational environment I was Head of Faculty in a large secondary school and I have also worked in private education. I have worked with students who have barriers to learning and I am creative in my problem solving. I have worked with high attaining students to develop their potential to the full. Personal Description:
I was an art scholar at school, and studied Illustration (BA Hons) in Cambridge. Design and craft have always been a part of my career, but I began drawing again a few years ago now, during the evenings after my daughter had gone to bed and I was immediately reminded of the therapeutic effects drawing and being creative can be, especially for a creative mind.

I posted a couple on Instagram and they were sold within minutes. Since then, I have had the most amazing commission requests for the inks and over the last year have been commissioned several times to draw women during their later stages of pregnancy - such an intimate time to commemorate, each one is incredibly special.
The nudes evoke different energies, feelings, emotions - celebrating all bodies, all curves, and all that a body can do and enjoy.

I work across all media - sculpting is a huge favourite of mine, along with botanical watercolours, and portrait sketches.

I would love to help those wanting to explore art in general, understand the basics, explore different styles and find a new outlet. For those wanting to improve, I would also love to help.

About me:

In 2014 I completed an MA in "Authorial Illustration" (with Distinction) at the University of Falmouth. Prior to that I worked as Head of Art at Didcot Girls` School in Oxfordshire for 9 years, before moving South towards Bristol where I began working as a tutor at the Royal West Academy in Bristol amongst other things. I have now just moved West to the Stroud area and am looking for new students and opportunities to share my passion for painting and all things creative. I have an up to date criminal record (DBS) check and I work as a GCSE Art exam moderator every summer so I`m very familiar with the latest requirements from the exam boards and course curricula. I am also an artist, selling paintings locally through various galleries, a writer and the illustrator of several published books. I`m the author of two books: `Soul Color, a ten week course on watercolour painting to cultivate creativity and mindfulness`, and `Earth Color, an eight week art course for nature connection`. Both are published by Liminal 11 in the UK and Sterling/un ion Square & Co. in the USA & Canada. I have a First Class degree in English and Fine Art from Exeter University.

My namd is Debbie, i'm 48 yrs old and I am based in Preston Lancashire.
I have a City & Guild NVQ in Fashion and Textiles, a NVQ City & Guild in Decorative Epoxy Resin and a BA Hons in Textile Design.

My passion for Art, Crafts and Design has been of paramount importance to me and sharing my knowledge and skills to all learners in these subjects.

I qualified as a Textile Designer from the University of Central Lancashire with a BA Hons degree.
My main subject is Surface Pattern Design, where I enjoy freehand art work and enhance into digital manipulation or a repeat pattern, leading the end result to be printed for either clothing apparel, interior soft furnishings & wallpaper.

From this I gained a valuable insight into the fashion and textiles industry. My love for creating designs has continued throughout the years.

I decided to challenge my passion within Arts and Crafts and teach people that have the same passion as I.
