I am a mature lady (60yo) with a 1st Class Electrical/Electronic Engineering Degree (B.Sc) and a Postgraduate Management qualification from Cambridge University. My own 'A' Levels were Biology, Maths and Physics with a particular focus on electronics. At University I studied Maths at degree level.

After working as an Engineer I changed career in my late 20s and moved into the world of Therapy and Healing. I trained in hypnotherapy and craniosacral therapy as well as Human Design. I have worked with young people utilising various modalities to help them gain confidence and choose careers/subjects that bring out the best in them. I studied for a time in a Rudolph Steiner environment so I appreciate the value of alternative approaches and Artistic therapies to educating young people. I was also a member of the Steiner Academy Appeals panel for some time in Hereford.

From 2009 to 2012 I worked in an Admin capacity for OFSTED travelling around Schools and Colleges up and down the SW of England. My particular area of responsibility was the safeguarding and protection of children.

In 2011 I attended an Introduction to Autism training with the HANDLE organisation as I increasingly meet young people struggling on the Autism spectrum so this topic is of particular interest to me. I would be able to help refer any child who needed more specialised care. Related to this I have also been studying Human Design which is an invaluable tool for understanding how unique we all are.

I have a non-verbal family member who I am very close to and have devoted much of the last decade to working with her and bringing out her latent ability to communicate in novel ways.

I am friendly, empathic and good with younger people. I listen and watch and adapt to each situation I meet. I endeavour to help bring out the best in people on all levels. Through drawing in either pencil, charcoal, ink or pen I take my work forward into 3D materials and use photography as a major influence to inform my structures. As a youngster I always enjoyed art and sold my first paintings in my early teens. I then trained and studied the history of art at Maidstone College of Art and at The University of Wales.

After a career in graphic design & communications I re-started my career as an artist in 2014. I have been a member of various art groups for several years and I have been fortunate to win awards at local art exhibitions.

I paint landscapes and figurative subjects in a suggestive and vibrant style, and draw inspiration from mood and atmosphere in the world around me. I exhibit and sell locally and my work is gaining in popularity in local galleries. I also run workshops.

My approach to tutoring is to work with the students regarding whatever project they may be working on. In some cases I write a project for them. I speak online face to face to each student once a week and encourage them to upload work in-between our meetings for advice and comment. I help the students to understand what it is to be a visual artist and how to discover their own creative process. I have built up 7 years experience teaching from secondary school to University Level.

I work as an Associate Lecturer on the BA Painting Programme at Camberwell College of Arts (University of the Arts London), as a mentor on the Turps Painting Programme and was invited to be a Visiting Artist at Goldsmiths for 2023, and again for 2024. I am also a Dissertation Supervisor for Final Year students at Camberwell on their BA Programme. My specialism is Art History, however I have extensive knowledge of a wide variety of subjects and my tutees have all immensely improved their grades (often by multiple grade bands) and have been very happy with their results.

I also teach writing for a wide variety of audiences. I have experience writing reviews of exhibitions for Mousse magazine and an in conversation series with key artistic figures, including Turner Prize winner Mark Leckey, Markus Lüpertz, Leidy Churchman and Chris Martin. In 2019 my writing won the a-n arts prize and I took part in a series of workshops facilitated by prominent writers and editors, such as the Editor of Frieze magazine.
