Throughout his practice there is a sense of an acceptance of failure or disappointment as important parts of the human condition. He makes light with big issues and is, in turn, haunting and funny. His humorous sculpture typically conveys a sense of the accidental, eternally on the brink of failure or collapse. Recent DIY apocalypses, created from expanding builders' foam, seem to have an unruly, malevolent life of their own and explore the processes of invasion and infection. While his films and writing play with ideas of chance, quotidian struggles, the loss of control and responsibility.

Much of my work is done through direct observation and I stress to students, the importance of this. Students will need to find a topic that inspires them and do some visual research on this and I would then help the students by teaching them a range of different techniques, learning how to draw in a number of media from pencil, chalk, oil pastel, pen and ink, biro and graphite and then teach them how to paint in gouache, acrylic, watercolour and use a mixed media approach. Textiles is also a medium I would offer students and basic construction techniques. Adobe photoshop skills is also important in developing photographic images as part of the development. Developing different skills until the student finds out what they particularly enjoy working with and helping the student to explore different media to extend their ideas and lead the students up to developing a final piece. The students would then have a whole project from beginning to end which will help with portfolio development.

Based on my volunteering experience I can introduce my self as an arts and craft tutor. The materials I use in my art sessions varies from normal stationery, paper, air dry clay and fabric and the projects I have done with my students are Abstract art, paper and fabric collage, air dry clay sculpturing and lots of other miscellaneous, random recycled stuff.

I am currently a high school teacher, working with students from Key Stage 3 through to GCSE and A-Level, and I have also taught in a college setting. This has given me a broad understanding of exam board requirements, assessment criteria, and the skills needed to support learners at different stages of their education.

Over the years, I have worked with a wide variety of students - from those who are just beginning their artistic journey to those preparing portfolios for further study or creative careers. My teaching experience has taught me how to adapt my approach to suit individual needs, ensuring every student feels supported and motivated.

As a fully qualified teacher with a PGDE, an undergraduate degree, and a Master's degree in Art, I bring both subject expertise and practical classroom knowledge. I am also fully DBS checked, giving families peace of mind.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring is patient, encouraging, and tailored to each individual. I believe that every student learns differently, so I take the time to understand their goals, strengths, and areas for development before shaping lessons around them. Whether a student is preparing for exams, building a portfolio, or exploring art for fun, I create lessons that are engaging, supportive, and inspiring.

I aim to build confidence as well as technical skill, giving students the freedom to experiment while also developing strong foundations in technique. I encourage creativity and independent thinking, helping learners to discover their own artistic voice.

Most importantly, I want tutoring sessions to be enjoyable and motivating. By creating a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, I make sure students feel comfortable asking questions, trying new approaches, and celebrating their progress.
