I have been studying Spanish, French and Italian for many years and have gained numerous qualifications. Living in several European countries has also enabled me to develop my language skills to the extent that I am now confident in my ability to teach these languages to others.

I am currently studying for a TEFL course to update my teaching skills.

Hello, I am a well qualified, BA, MPhil, PGCE teacher who is looking to branch out into more private tutoring work. I have privately tutored for many years and have experience since 1996. As an examiner, I am well aware of the common mistakes that students make, and why they happen. I highlight these common errors to students so that they are aware of them and can avoid making the same mistakes themselves. The better a student can understand what an examiner is looking for, the more prepared that student is for the exam.

Tutoring Approach:
When teaching online, I make use a range of resources including the online whiteboard, web apps, a physical whiteboard, pen/pencil and paper. I have access to a tablet for use with the online whiteboard and an HD document camera for demonstrations using my physical whiteboard or pen and paper.

Some student like to tell me what to do each lesson, in which case I encourage them to let me know prior to the lesson so that I can prepare myself a little. Others prefer me to choose what to do. In both situations, if students have work they would like me to check between lessons, I am happy to do so.

I like to spend a little time with my students trying to find out where their strengths lie and then work with them on their weaknesses first. I provide a clear set of notes, which I prefer to give as the lesson proceeds. This allows the student to be fully engaged in the work and gives them the chance to stop me at any point and ask questions, change direction or spend more time on a particular section than originally intended. I like to provide the student with exam questions to work on in their own time, because I feel the tutoring time is better spent consolidating key concepts. This way, I find students are much better prepared to tackle a range of exam questions and more confident in approaching unfamiliar situations within the exam context.
