Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified teacher with Cambridge MA, PGCE & DELTA, with 30 years' experience of teaching in a variety of contexts including general secondary school English and Drama, GCSE, A Level, IB, and tuition at university and postgraduate level, including assistance with theses and similar.
I have considerable experience of TEFL/TOEFL and a successful record in teaching Cambridge FCE, CPE, etc as well as Business English classes for non-native professionals.
I recently returned to the UK from Spain for family reasons and I am new to the York area. I'm taking time out for a while to write that elusive million-seller or sitcom! Meanwhile I am a member of SfEP and work part time as a professional proofreader and copy editor. I am very happy to help groups or individuals with their academic needs.

I have been working as a maths tutor since 2011 and online exclusively since 2015. During this period, I have successfully assisted students studying for their GCSE, IB and A-levels as well as their undergraduate modules. This has taken place both privately and while holding external tutoring roles in various London schools. In the online realm, I have worked with students from all over the world, those studying for UK specifications as well as undergraduates in English speaking universities or wishing to attend UK universities. Areas usually covered for undergraduates include analysis and calculus, analytic and differential geometry, financial maths, linear algebra, statistics and probability.

Regarding my tutoring method, I strive to create a well balanced relationship with pupils. I set clear targets for my students and expect them to develop throughout our sessions. Additionally, I emphasize on the suitable approach for each individual in order to have the best results possible. I further consider humour an essential part of my sessions as it creates a better learning environment, eliminates inhibitions, and promotes a more enjoyable session.

Lastly, in my lessons, I put a lot of emphasis on the background knowledge of every topic and method - dry memorising is of no use. Exams aside, analytic skills accompany students throughout their studies in various areas.

I'm very friendly and passionate with what I do. I'm enthusiastic with teaching and especially maths and I am trying to convey this feeling to my students as well. Maths is not plainly something you have to learn but something fun you could learn. Of course we all care about grades but what counts most at the end of the day is the new mindset you have acquired, upon which you can carry on building within any discipline.

On a more personal note, I am a keen yoga practitioner and a performer in contemporary dance. Philosophy is my second passion following mathematics - abstract thinking to the fullest. When time allows, I explore the intersections of philosophy with various disciplines and practices.

I am a mother of 2 teenagers and recently started up private tuition as my only income as I really enjoy the work and find it very rewarding.

Teaching Experience:
I have a lot of experience in teaching modern languages to all ages of children and adults. I have taught in UK high schools and primary schools, I have worked for Le Club Francais (an after school French club), I have taught adults in evening classes and most recently I have taught individuals and small groups of children offering them fun French lessons and GCSE tuition. I also teach some of my students via Skype.

Previously, I was a Research Fellow designing spacecraft structures having finished my PhD Mechanical Engineering. I am currently doing a masters program in oil and gas chemistry at the university of Aberdeen, Scotland. I got my bachelors degree industrial chemistry from Madonna university Nigeria. (4.49 GPA). I have very good communication skills and very patient with students as I tutored for a bit during my first degree.I also simplify chemistry to the minimum and make it interesting for students. I am French but have lived in Britain for years (both my children, who are in their 20's, were born here). I have also lived and worked in Spain and am fluent in the language. I then taught adults in a language school (Inlingua) in Germany, Italy and London. I came back to this country and got a job in a private school where I was the teacher in charge of Spanish. After working in this school for 21 years, I have just retired but miss the excitement of teaching.

Teaching Experience:
I have taught languages all my life, first in a Welsh comprehensive school (for 8 years), then abroad. In Spain, I taught French and English in a primary school and I then taught adults French, Spanish and English as a foreign language for Inlingua. When I returned to Britain, I taught French and Spanish to GCSE and A level in a private school. I have just retired after 21 years there and I now help a private Open University student. I enjoy teaching and would like to do more tutoring.

I am a PhD student at the University of Manchester researching materials for applications to nuclear fusion. I am deeply passionate about my subject, although I understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea! I try my hardest to help my students increase their confidence, enjoyment of the subject and, of course, their grades.

I have been an online tutor since October 2019 and have seen some of my students make 3 grades progress in 3 months. I have worked with a variety of exam boards including international qualifications.

Tutoring Approach:
I try to keep my sessions relatively relaxed as I strongly believe that the best way to learn is when you feel most comfortable. As a fellow student, I can relate to my students and offer them some advice about their studies outside of the classroom. I grew up in Northern Italy (Piedmont), and did my University Degree in Italian Humanities, and my MA in Film Studies in Turin (Torino). In 2005 I moved to the UK, because of my fascination with the culture, music and landscape. I was an indie music nerd as a teenager and young man, with a huge passion for obscure bands. I also loved to write and sing, and got a lot of inspiration for my writing from movies and literature. I am still enthusiastic about going to the cinema, or discovering a new novel or a new (or old) band. On top of these interests, I'm passionate about language, poetry, psychology, personal development, nutrition and beautiful coastal landscapes.

Teaching Experience:
Since my arrival in Bristol in 2005, I first worked as an Italian Linguist for an international corporation. After three years, I dedicated some time to focus on my music and writing, but soon I also pursued a career in Adult and Community Education, developing my teaching practice and experience and creating courses, programmes and tailored lessons for groups and individuals. I gained a certificate to teach adults (PTLLS), and have worked both with a great number of private clients, with a college (Redmaids School for Girls, where I have been Italian Teaching Assistant), with adult education organisations (City of Bristol College, Bristol City Council, The Bristol Folk House) and with Language Schools (International House, The Language Experience, Bristol Language School).

I believe that a good understanding of Maths and Physics is a key skill with benefits in so many aspects of life. Having seen first hand how studying STEM at higher level can lead to an exciting and rewarding career I'm keen to pass on my knowledge and my enthusiasm for the subject.

Teaching Experience:
Currently I work as an Aerospace Engineer in fast jet development, I have tutored informally for siblings and friends in the past at GCSE level. I was previously offered a job as a secondary Physics teacher although I did not end up accepting the position.

Tutoring Approach:
As with any subject, everyone learns in different ways- however I believe this is especially true of STEM subjects as often key scientific concepts can be tricky to understand at first. I always aim to be able to teach a concept/idea in a few different ways and use tools such as visualisation of problems with diagrams and animations to illustrate a point. Most importantly I believe in using real world examples, as without them it can sometimes be hard to understand why we are learning these things, and can make the problem feel more approachable/familiar.
