As a 63 year old with 17 years teaching, I have a lifetime of real experiences outside teaching. This includes 20 years as an RAF technician using maths and physics and 10 years in the business and computing world. Consequently I can deliver teaching to students that is real and meaningful. Domestically I have four children (three have left home), a cat called Abby and Freddie the gold fish.

Parents are often sceptical at first, but after a short demonstration, most of my potential students and parents take the online option. After the first couple of sessions parents begin to understand why traditional tutoring methods are very poor and often produce limited results. My aim is to develop a student's confidence and identify any barriers to learning. I am very passionate about films, theatre, the media industry. I am currently in my second year of a BA Hons in Film Studies at Edge Hill University, living away from home during the week but always available on weekends. I am hardworking, dedicated to my studies and after my undergraduate degree I am hoping to continue my studies with a Masters degree.

In utilising my experience of working with mental health I set up and ran the only Maths for Mental Health group in Sussex which, although successful, unfortunately was terminated due to lack of funding along with my Family Learning teaching practice.

During the time of working in the Education & Employment sector I was responsible for skills development of various special needs groups so I have a solid understanding of and experience in a wide variety of educational needs. I am a fully qualified and experienced Maths and ICT teacher, and have taught all secondary year groups and abilities. I am also an examiner for GCSE maths for two exam boards.

I now work part-time as an online tutor, and part-time as a web developer. Both roles are flexible which means I can tutor at any time of the day and am free to adjust my schedule at short notice.

Prior to becoming a teacher, I studied aerospace engineering at university.

Teaching Experience:
I have more than 10 years classroom experience at schools in the UK and abroad. As well as teaching Maths, I have taught ICT in the majority of those schools.

As a teacher, I estimate that I must have taught well over 1000 students. Those students have come from a wealth of backgrounds and abilities. All those who have had external key exams (GCSE, A level, IB) have passed, including at least two students who were expected to fail by a significant margin.

When teaching online, I make use a range of resources including the online whiteboard, web apps, a physical whiteboard, pen/pencil and paper. I have access to a tablet for use with the online whiteboard and an HD document camera for demonstrations using my physical whiteboard or pen and paper.

Some student like to tell me what to do each lesson, in which case I encourage them to let me know prior to the lesson so that I can prepare myself a little. Others prefer me to choose what to do. Hi I'm Elise! A second year environmental science student at Lancaster University. I have a wide range of science knowledge and am excited to begin sharing and supporting GCSE aged pupils grow in their knowledge and interest of the sciences as well! Outside of tutoring, I spend lots of my time playing the flute, reading, and hiking! I'm looking forward to beginning this tutoring journey in a fun, creative and beneficial way .

I have experience tutoring one to one close friends and family but I believe I am suited to further tutoring since I already have quite a lot of experience in supporting and facilitating young people in scouting since I am an experienced scout leader in the Winchester district. I also would say I have a recent and relevant understanding of the GCSE syllabus and examinations, especially in the sciences since I am currently taking a Bsc Environmental Science degree and my passion for science has only grown since I took my GCSE's.
