I am currently studying for a Biological Sciences PhD. I have an MSc in Applied Marine Science and a first class honours BSc in Marine Biology.
I love my subject and want to share this with the next generation while helping them achieve the best that they can.

Teaching Experience:
I have experience in secondary level education in England, having completed the Student Associate Scheme at the end of my Bachelors Degree. In doing so I had experience working as a classroom assistant and running my own Biology lessons.
I have also worked as a demonstrator within the university.

Tutoring Approach:
I don't believe in giving the answers, it does not help anybody. My approach is to explore the question/problem/topic. If a question can be explored from a different angle then the answer is always reachable. Learning shouldn't be just memorising facts, but really understanding a topic. I love that moment when it just clicks!

I am a mature Scottish Chartered Teacher who qualified initially in 1994. I received the Chartered Teacher from the general teaching council for Scotland in 2010. I have experience of tutoring students from 2006 and I am very enthusiastic in my work. I do not watch the clock and will prepare lessons to meet the needs of the student. I gained a M.A.Ed.(Special Needs) in 2005 and have found it invaluable in identifying and overcoming barriers to learning.Presently I have a wide range of students including those with Dyslexia and Aspergers. I also tutor for a family who home school their children.

I have tutor children and young adults from upper primary to the senior stage in Secondary. I have no preference for the stage, it is the teaching experience I enjoy.

I adopt a very pupil centred approach to teaching. All children are different and it is your child's needs I must meet. Some students like to work on homework others on specific parts of the course. There is no general case to consider. I will use an approach to teaching which suits the student.

I'm a 32-year old music graduate, currently living on the Isle of Man. I completed CELTA in Budapest, Hungary in 2012 and have been teaching privately since then. With my background in music I am good at incorporating this interest into my lessons (along with a passion for films, cartoons and humour).

I have tutored students from different top universities across the country, through face-to-face and skype sessions.

My approach entails identifying the student's learning priorities, and also certain learning areas that the tutoring session can strengthen. I use the student's syllabus structure and material to guide the learning session for each specific module.

I have found skype sessions as very productive for both the students and I, as we save on travel time, and have the benefit of a lot of material that we would otherwise be unable to drag around to a neutral meeting place. I give individual and group lessons according to the requirements of my students. The duration may vary from 1 to 3 hours, where I combine conversational practice with grammar, I usually include all aspects of language learning such as listening, speaking, reading and writing. My principal aim is to achieve effective communication in the language I teach. I stick to the principle: learning is fun. There should not be any boredom in the classroom. Every lesson is supposed to be enjoyable and provide more resources for the motivation of the students and me as a teacher. I have mastered certain techniques necessary for teaching online. My tutoring sessions can can be either online (synchronously) via a whiteboard & voice chat, or offline (asynchronously) via email / shared Google documents etc. All students that are not tutored at home, will need access to a laptop or desktop computer, with an internet connection. A web camera is not required.

A 2 hour weekday lesson costs £50. A weekday booking (6 hours) costs £125. Feedback on a single calculation (PDF) via email exchange costs £10. If your family is currently receiving a state benefit I can also provide some free maths tutoring.

My aim as a tutor is to create in my students a deep understanding and confidence in answering exam questions and being able to tackle new and unfamiliar problems. I don't lecture to students or ask them to memorise things. Nor do I do the students' homework for them!

I usually focus on exam-style or past paper questions in order to check, practice and perfect the student's understanding and technique. I also give a lot of emphasis to some of the less obvious but vital skills such as essay structure and technique, logical thought, and the effective use of numbers and graphs.
