Maths is about mastering a number of key skills. So rather than try to teach the whole of the GCSE maths course , I focus on a few key skills starting with the basic Sums , before moving onto ratio , percentage , factorisation and algebra.

The key points are - get rid of basic errors - learn a bit - practice a lot

In particular I like my pupils to practice past exam papers , as the best way to get better at GCSE maths , is to do LOTS of GCSE maths questions

I am an experienced sociology tutor and proofreader having taught in the sociology department at the University of Warwick for four years and also for a short while in the School of Languages and Social Sciences at the University of Aston. (I can also tutor at this level in modern history, politics and international relations). I have BA in sociology and politics from Oxford Brookes University and an MSc in social science research methods from Sussex. I completed my doctorate at the University of Warwick. In addition to my university work, I have tutored for a private agency (where I held an advanced CRB certificate) at A-level in sociology, politics and modern history. My last DBS was held from 2023 to 2024. They send me the work a day or to before the lesson so that I can mark it in advance for discussion. There is also often time to discuss one or two topics with which the student is having difficulty.

Students in education usually do one-hour sessions weekly or fortnightly but some students make more or less frequent arrangements.
