I'm a highly educated native Russian speaker and
I consider English my second mother tongue (having been immersed in it since the age of 10 and having lived in the UK for over 20 years).

Having done a great deal of studying, reading and teaching through the years, I'm passionate about passing my knowledge to others. I feel that I have a lot to offer to those who're looking for extra help or guidance in improving their English skills.

Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching English as a foreign language at different levels since 1984, first in Russia and since 2001 in the UK.
I've worked with students of different age groups at a range of educational levels. My employers included mainstream schools, a Teacher Training Institute, an Academy of Economics and Management, and specialized language schools.

I have taught mathematics for over 20 years now and enjoy keeping up to date with lesson delivery, whilst maintaining a keen interest in how we learn about numbers and maths generally. Towards the end of my career I became interested in our parents and how many struggle with the often complicated explanations offered in some texts or online explanations. I am now semi retired and enjoy offering some simple private tuition in addition to continuing to work part time in schools. I am a friendly, down to earth tutor a good sense of humour.

I now mainly prefer to teach adults up to GCSE but as long as you can make daytime sessions I can help. I use an intuitive approach wherever possible. It has been noted that I explain concepts quite clearly and students can be surprised at the ease with which they pick up previously difficult concepts.

I have had a passion for Physics from a young age, deciding then I wanted to study to degree level. Once completing my masters degree I worked in industry for 3 years doing blue sky research for BAE SYSTEMS. I decided that, whilst the intellectual rewards were great, I wanted to work more closely with people which prompted my move into teaching.

I am a currently practicing teacher with 20 years experience at a high achieving independent school. I have experience teaching a range of abilities: from straight A students to students struggling on the D/E borderline.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe students progress best when they are confident to give problem solving a go. As a tutor I will go through the theory with tutees but my prime focus will always be how we apply that theory in practice. I am a musician, qualified primary teacher (QTS) with a Master's degree in Education, Pets As Therapy volunteer, founder and facilitator at Meta for learning CIC.

As part of a distance-learning Masters degree in association with FUNIBER and the Universidad de León, I carried out an ethnographic action research project using a democratic approach called Community Language Learning. In this approach there is no syllabus or textbook to follow. It is the learners themselves who determine the content by means of meaningful conversations.
It incorporates translation, transcription and recording techniques.

When I am not working I love volunteering, practising ice skating or track cycling with my daughter and also growing an edible garden !

I was born in Madrid where I trained as a primary teacher and classical musician (cello and chamber music).

I worked in Escuelas de Musica in the outskirts of Madrid which are inclusive socially-minded music schools where I taught cello lessons and support the development of the String Department by assisting during orchestra rehearsals. Both adults and children of all ages are welcome to take lessons.

Shortly after moving to the UK I started a part time job teaching Music to 5-7 yo children at the Rowans Prep school in Wimbledon alongside studying a Mater's and working in Adult education- I carried out a 2-year ethnographic action research project at St Luke's centre in Islinghton.

I then applied to a position in Esadst London and started working for Children's language services teaching at several primary schools in Tower Hamlets. My roles were to deliver the MFL primary curriculum; coordinate the implementation of new initiatives in schools ie use of the European Portfolio for language Learning which was being developed between the Council and universities, provide class teachers with CPD training; undertake tasks such as EAL First Language assessments.

After taking maternative leave I trained to become an online tutor and worked part- time for Own Tutors, Clapham.

In 2019 I founded a learning community Metaforlearning Cic where I run Self-Manage Learning programmes for young people.

Post doctoral researcher at University of Sheffield, working to improve mathematical computer models which predict onset of heart disease.

I recently completed a PhD in Bioengineering at Imperial College London, carrying out mathematical research on heart disease. My first degree was in Maths at the same university, and I took a Masters in Biomedical Research in between.

I attended both a state school and a top boarding school and am comfortable to cover topics on and off the standard syllabus.

I am a very fun, friendly person with a wide range of activities and hobbies from inline skating to singing and playing the violin.

Teaching Experience:
I have tutored A-level maths privately for a few years, and also spent several weeks as a teaching assistant in a secondary school during my undergraduate degree as part of the Student Associates Scheme. Many of my contemporaries from university are science and mathematics teachers across England and overseas, and I periodically discuss teaching methods and curriculum changes with them.

During my PhD, I led undergraduate tutorials and problems classes in the Mathematics and several Engineering departments, teaching undergraduates from 1st year to 4th year. Having successfully completed a PhD in History in 2011 following a BA in History (2005) and MA in Medieval History (2006), I have recently authored a book on Cultural Trends in Medieval Poetry, set to be published by E.J. Brill in 2016. I have tutored English for many years, specialising in language analysis and literary interpretation. My work has involved assisting with Controlled Assessments, prose and poetry analysis and exam preparation.

I have mentored year 4 students in maths before as part of a scheme within school, as well as year 7 students. In total I have tutored 8 students over the last 2 years, all of whom achieved what they set out to achieve when I started my tutoring, from getting into the Liverpool Blue Coat School (the school that achieved the highest national GCSE grades the year that I sat GCSE's), to getting a grade 8 in maths (A* equivalent)

I feel that my unique selling point is that as a student myself, I can relate to the struggles that other students encounter when subjects are taught and delivered to them. My weaknesses and qualms during the GCSE and A level period were only resolved by my own active learning to teach myself topics which I couldn't grasp correctly from lessons, and I feel that these are areas and topics many students will find difficulty in understanding, whether it be in Maths, Biology or Chemistry, and so I believe I can effectively pass on my knowledge to help students achieve the highest grades by learning the trickier topics from a different perspective. I worked full-time for 5 years at the University of Manchester where I was the only full-time Portuguese language lecturer (16 weekly contact hours with language-specialist students), having left my teaching position to commence my fully-funded PhD studies.
