Until January 2011, I was a Science Teacher at Plymstock School in Plymouth where I had been the Head of Chemistry for 10 years. Previously I had worked at Kelly College Independent School as a Chemistry Teacher and the Head of Lower School Science. Since January 2011, I have been self employed as both a Professional Tutor and also a Professional Drummer! I love both aspects of my self-employment and look forward to helping many more students achieve exam success.

Teaching Experience:

CHEMISTRY
I use revision notes and PowerPoints to aid understanding but try to focus the learning around past paper questions and answers as much as possible.
I have handwritten answers to AQA, OCR-A and OCR-Salters past papers which are scanned in to the computer for projection onto a smart board.
I offer individual tuition on a 1:1 basis and also small tutorials of between 2 to 3 students, who are in the same year group and following the same specification… often friends.

I began my combat training at thirteen at a local boxing club in Llanelli, learning the vital skills and discipline that have kept me working in the fitness and self-defence field for over ten years.

At the age of fifteen I joined the Cobra-Kai Freestyle Kickboxing Federation, and trained religiously under the regime of instructor Lee Martin (4th degree black belt). In 1997 I went on to win the European martial arts title (WUMA Federation), held at Cheltenham. On my return, and after numerous local newspaper photos and write-ups, I received the greatest honour any keen young martial artist dreams of: becoming a fully-fledged black belt.

Teaching Experience:
At the young age of 18, I opened my very own kickboxing club at Llanelli Leisure Centre, for all levels and ages. After showcasing my skills, not only as a martial artist but also a teacher, I received my 2nd degree black belt. Starting with just one weekly ninety-minute class, I now run four classes per week. Over the years I have helped created more than ten black belt students, two welsh champions and one British champion.

In 1997, I ran my first all women's self-defence class, training women of all ages and physical abilities. I continued my classes, eventually including mixed gender and young persons training.

After undergoing a series of courses from Securicare, Frontline, Venue security and BIIAB City and Guilds, I have become a Level 7 Conflict Management Trainer. I have worked alongside various organisations such as the NHS, covering the majority of hospitals and clinics throughout Carmarthenshire.

As well as training, I have since achieved my 4th degree black belt, opened my own one-to-one gym, and become an advanced level 3 personal trainer through Fitness Wales (REPs certified), teaching private lessons of fitness, weight training, martial arts, self-defence, Pilates, and much more.

I am a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/MMA instructor offering 1-2-1 sessions to anyone looking to learn a combat skill for self defense, to improve their overall fitness or to just simply have fun.

I have trained Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and MMA for over 5 years and have currently train and spar with UFC and Bellator fighters aswell as the UK's Top mma fighters. I have also competed in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for over 5 years and have amassed over 18 Gold medals internationally.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a Martial art and combat sport heavily focusing on the Grappling aspects of fighting, such as takedown, joint locks, chokes and positional dominance. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is one of the largest aspects of MMA and can be seen being utilised at the highest levels of UFC. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was originally derived from Judo and developed later in Brazil as a self defense martial art focusing on ground Grappling. To this day Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a very effective self defense martial art.

Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/MMA for 3 years which includes teaching adult classes and kids classes. I focus on teaching 1-2-1 sessions.

Tutoring Approach:
I teach my students elite Combat skills designed to neutralise a possible threat while taking minimal damage and the least risk of injury.

My classes start off with a warm up to get the blood flowing. The warmup consists of exercises that are designed to stimulate and strengthen the muscles that are primarily used in the martial art. After the warm up, I focus heavy on the technical aspects of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and MMA in which I teach the students physically how to implement the techniques and also verbally explain to them. I am a practising artist and teacher with over 13 years experience. I love to support people who need to build their portfolios either for their A-levels, to apply for or while on art foundation and degree programmes.
Alongside teaching I currently work in painting, drawing, printing, and more recently dance and sculpture. I am in constant consideration of my practice and I love sharing this inspiration with my students.

Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching art to all ages and levels since 2010. After graduating from the Royal Drawing School in London, I ran drawing classes for them in various venues including Whitechapel Gallery, The V&A Museum, The National Gallery, and Saatchi Gallery. After the Royal Drawing School I set up and ran Root Drawing, an experimental drawing class for local artists. On residency in India I taught BA students and on my return to London taught in further education at the Art Academy. I have since developed my own practice in painting at the Turps Art School in London. I am a highly motivated and capable mathematics graduate of the University of Cambridge and the University of Warwick working full-time as a maths tutor, teaching mostly A/AS Level, STEP, and MAT with some GCSE. I get along well with students using a friendly enthusiastic manner and patient guidance, allowing me to engage them in a subject that many (sadly) find difficult or tedious to deal with. I've had significant success helping students to see why this subject is exciting and beautiful as well as extremely useful. Passing a maths exam can be stressful and overwhelming at times. With my help a student can learn not just all the material they need, but also efficient, reliable and (most importantly) intuitive approaches to thinking about the topics/problems. Students often cite both my enthusiasm and clarity as having really benefited them. I really genuinely enjoy sharing the passion I have for maths with others, I have the best job in the world!
