This includes 20 years as an RAF technician using maths and physics and 10 years in the business and computing world. Consequently I can deliver teaching to students that is real and meaningful. Delivered directly into your home via live Internet, the benefits of online learning are massive: all sessions are recorded, students have access to hundreds of PowerPoint, accurate assessment, and students make rapid progress. After the first couple of sessions parents begin to understand why traditional tutoring methods are very poor and often produce limited results. My aim is to develop a student's confidence and identify any barriers to learning. Effective learning and thinking skills can be developed through gentle questioning and guiding a student so they are able to achieve. If necessary, I may "test" their current knowledge and capabilities by asking them to work through 1-2 questions so I can see their thought process and therefore, tailor any advice and teaching accordingly.

If a student completely doesn't understand a topic/area, then I would start from the basics and use plenty of worked examples and textbook/past paper questions to cement their knowledge and understanding as the key to doing well is achieved through practicing as many questions as possible!

I am a chartered software engineer with decades of experience in the industry. With a Cambridge degree and doctorate in AI I have performed a wide variety of roles including AI research, technical support, network engineering, software development, web development, software engineering, systems analysis ... as well as teaching GNVQ, A Level and University Level. Most recently I have been working as a senior manager in a software engineering company. I am approaching retirement age and returning to teaching. I also work in the Prisons Service and the NHS as a psychodrama psychotherapist and have an enhanced DBS. I will be accepting new students in September 2025.

Teaching Experience:
I have taught GNVQ and A Level at Oxpens FE College in Oxford, and I have taught on the Open University Databases and SQL Level 3 (advanced degree) course. My teaching for the Open University was literally exemplary: samples of my teaching were included in their Best Practice guide for lecturers for 5 years. I also tutored privately for 5 years and ran my own evening class courses before taking on my most recent software engineering role.
