dI have over 25 years experience teaching degree level, HND and ND levels of illustration, drawing and illustration industrial placement. More recently I have collaborated to design workshops and short courses in art and illustration, working with organisations and individuals. My private 1:1 tutoring often involves preparing students for 'A' Level, college and university or building portfolios for further education.

Many of my university students have gone on to be leading professionals in the creative industries, but you may wish to have lessons to improve your technique of a media or drawing application, as a leisure painter.

My background is in natural history illustration and wildlife art, working in a variety of media including; watercolour, acrylics, graphite and oils. Hello, I live in Sunderland. I have a B A (Hons) degree and a Certificate in Education specialising in Maths and English and I have also attended relevant courses (for example in Dyslexia Awareness) and have a Counselling certificate.

Teaching Experience:
I have had approximately 30 years experience of teaching English and Maths and this has included helping pupils to prepare for the SATs tests and for GCSEs. I have worked with children and adults on a one to one basis and in groups and fully understand the needs of both.

I have had extensive experience teaching in schools and am therefore familiar with the requirements of the national curriculum at key stages 1, 2 3 and 4.

I also have a vast array of resources and past exam papers and can also create resources that are tailor made for a specific pupil.

Tutoring Approach:
I enjoy working creatively and will tailor learning to the particular interests of the pupil if necessary as I feel that this makes learning more interesting and meaningful for them. I have established excellent relationships with pupils in the past and have a sensitive, caring and thoughtful approach.

In the first session I carry out an assessment in order to get an idea of the needs of the pupil and use this as a trial session. Pupils don't have to continue unless they are happy with everything

I lived and worked in France and am keen to pass on my love for the language and culture of this fascinating country. I am fluent in French and have an MA in French studies. I love all things French - music, history, culture - and I love to communicate this in my teaching. I have taught all level of learners from little ones to GCSE students through to adult learners. I have been teaching for 10 years and have built up a wealth of experience and can recommend websites and links that will be of use to lots of different levels. I have paid for access to a language learning website and I invite my learners to register through the links I send (this is free for students - I have paid for the access).

My approach is very much to ensure that you are comfortable with the learning environment. I use the Gianfranco Conti method of teaching which means that I encourage speaking and listening in our classes, however, I do back this up with writing and reading exercises so that all the 4 skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) are practised in my lessons.
I work with the student to make sure that we are approaching the learning that you need in a very proactive way.
