Personal Description:
I have just left a PGCE primary course after deciding teaching in a classroom environment was not for me at this point, preferring to work one on one with children. I am a language graduate from the University of Glasgow and currently live in Whitstable, Kent. I am very aware of the primary curriculum and my strong subjects are literacy, numeracy, art and languages.
I am a very patient and hard-working tutor and see the potential in all individuals. I have developed very useful skills for spotting difficulties in learning, particularly at primary level and how these can be tackled effectively.
Teaching Experience:
Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow. Educational outreach programme. Working with young people in art projects.
Spanish and Portuguese private tuition to beginner adults.
Work in primary schools as trainee teacher and before this as a helper.
Teaching English in Chile to individuals and in a language school.
Tutoring Approach:
I am very thorough and would make sure I know exactly what is required from my teaching. For example if it is geared towards an exam or an area of learning that requires support, I would focus on this area and draw up a learning plan, within a time frame.
I believe in encouragement and creating a safe, friendly teaching environment. I also believe in looking at individual needs and would not have a set, rigid structure for all students, especially with younger learners who require a variation of teaching methods. I am organised and use tuition time effectively to insure the students learning progresses.
