Personal Description:

I am 33 years old and a Qualified Primary Teacher. I currently run my own business (SportStart) providing sports coaching for after-school clubs in primary schools across Surrey. I also provide PPA cover in schools during term-time, run school holiday sports academies and deliver exciting children's birthday parties! Although I am very keen on sport, my real passion is working with children, which led me to becoming a primary teacher. Whilst I have great fun teaching sport to children, I do miss the day-to-day teaching in the classroom environment, where life is never dull!

Teaching Experience:

I hold a Primary PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) which enables me to teach children in the 4-11 age range. I spent 2 years teaching at Brookwood Primary School in Brookwood, Surrey, with Year 5 and Year 6 children. I subsequently set up my sports coaching business however during that period I continued to teach, covering PPA time at Windlesham Village Infant School, Windlesham, Surrey, where I taught children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. I currently teach Year 2 children at the Mead Infant School in Ewell, Surrey, where I am employed to cover PPA time as a sports coach.

Tutoring Approach:

I take great pride and satisfaction from helping a child to achieve their full potential. Being able to develop a child's confidence, knowledge and skills is such a rewarding experience - this is what attracted me to teaching! I believe that I am friendly and relaxed but always professional in everything I do. I like to be innovative and find interesting and stimulating ways of helping children to learn and express themselves. With Maths tuition in particular I try to combine practical, often sports-related activities with the teaching of methods to engage a child's attention and focus them on a specific area of learning. I am also fairly flexible in the hours I can work and will go that extra bit further than your 'average' tutor!
