Wilson - Oxford tutor
Information About Wilson:
Personal Description:
I am an easy-going, humorous, graduate who is currently reading medicine at St Hugh's College, Oxford University. I possess a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences as well as a Masters of Public Health. I love teaching, and I enjoy helping students understand and appreciate math and science.
Teaching Experience:
I have worked as a tutor since Summer 2004; teaching both math and science subjects to high school students. I have also led small classes in Biology and Chemistry for 1st and 2nd year undergraduates at my University.
Tutoring Approach:
I do not believe in giving out answers. If you are looking for a tutor who does your homework, then I am perhaps the last person you should consider. My approach to teaching focuses on development of the thought process when approaching math and science subjects. I challenge my students to think through problems--occasionally providing hints--in order for them to truly understand and develop their own answers to the problems. When approaching new topics, I often use examples from real-life to help my students relate to the topic being discussed.
Because a few hours a week of tutoring is hardly enough for the student to fully understand the subject, my approach focuses on laying a framework on which the student can then go on to study more effectively for that subject. Having taught several students over the last few years, I am familiar with the thought barriers that a student faces when studying for a subject and I usually address them before it becomes an issue for the student, thus allowing my students to maximize their study time.
I find that students who are self-motivated will benefit most from my approach even if they may not currently be doing well in school. Several of my previous students have enrolled in Ivy League Universities as well as other top institutions across the U.S.
