Xiang - Southgate tutor
Information About Xiang:
Personal Description:
Hello, every one. My name is Xiang Jing. I am a Mandarin Chinese (simplified Chinese) native speaker and I come from the north of China (Shan Xi Province), where standard regulated Mandarin Chinese both in accent and in writing is used in daily life. So if you choose me as a Mandarin Chinese tutor, your Chinese level will be standard rather than having other local accents.
With reference to my English level as well as my education background, I am fabulous in English both in spoken and in written, especially in grammar and pronunciation part since I was trained strictly in those areas while studying at University in China (Xi'an International University). I was awarded my BA degree (BA in Business Studies & Information Technology) as well as my MA degree (MA in Translation Studies) in the UK. At present, I am working as a freelance interpreter/translator and has been highly praised of my language level both in Chinese and English by the clients.
While studying for my BA degree, my maths was always marked as grade 1, which is the highest mark.
I have three years English teaching experience in China as well as in the UK.
At present, working as a popular Mandarin teacher in Manchester Chinese Centre (Manchester, UK), I am teaching students along from Beginners to Advanced level. In addition, I also had one year experience in teaching Mandarin while studying in Portsmouth University, UK.
Teaching Experience:
three years teaching experience in English in China. Students are from junior school, high school and Universities. Half a year English teaching in London to a 12-year old Chinese girl.
At present, working as a popular Mandarin teacher in Manchester Chinese Centre (Manchester, UK), I am teaching students along from the Beginners to Advanced level. In addition, I also had one year Mandarin Chinese teaching experience to an English-native speaker
Tutoring Approach:
From my own experience, I am well aware that most of things have their own "rule". Once this "rule" is grasped and mastered by students, it will be much easier to learn quickly and easily. For example, suffix "-tion", "-ment", "cian" will display the form of one word is a noun; "-tic" (obstractive), "tive" (informative), "-al" (occupational) will, in most cases, show the word is in the form of adjective.
Thus, my approach of teaching is going to concentrate on these "rules", following with plenty of examples and exercises, so that my students can benefit not only learning one word/character that being taught but also mastering the knowledge under the same "rule".
Interesting and vivid story telling in Mandarin, with the assistance of pictures or real objects to impress my students (for instance, before teaching the Chinese character for "watermelon", I showed my students a vivid picture of watermelon at the beginning in order to interest them as well as impressing them), open class discussion, role playing, flexible content arrangement based on designated textbook, frequent repeating, practising and revision on educated characters and grammar structures and so on are the main pedagogy that I am utilizing in teaching children as well as adult students. These methods have been well-proven and broadly accepted and welcomed by my students. In addition, based on the designated teaching books, I am always fully prepared before starting every class, collecting as much relative information as I can to provide some more extra and relative information outside of the textbook. One of my adult students used to say that missing even only one of my classes is a big regret to him since it is not possible to catch up by only following the text book.
