Emma - Sheffield tutor

Information About Emma:

Personal Description:

I am a hard-working, experienced and enthusiastic teacher. I have a great passion for English language and literature which I hope to pass on to my tutees. I have enjoyed passing on my knowledge over the past seven years as a classroom teacher, and I am looking forward to returning to work as a private tutor to offer some vital one-on-one help, encouragement and confidence where it is needed.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as a secondary school teacher for almost seven years, in Australia and the UK. I have worked chiefly as an English teacher, but I also have some experience in French, Indonesian and drama. I have worked on language and literacy programmes with special needs students, as well as extension programmes for gifted students. As well as my everyday classroom teaching, I have also planned and delivered after-school and holiday revision sessions.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that one-on-one assistance can make an immense difference to a student's attainment. I would usually begin a tutoring assignment by finding out about a tuee's feelings about English, where they feel their challenges are, and what they think of the texts they are studying. I feel it is important that I get to know a bit about the student and their needs before planning out our sessions. I would also ask to see the tasks the tutee has been set by their classroom teacher, and would work with the student on raising the quality of each task.
