Personal Description:

I'm a postgraduate student at Sussex University looking for a part-time job to prop up my earnings. I'm originally from Cyprus, hence Greek is my native language, but have spent the last six years living, studying and working in Paris, France. I've graduated from the Sorbonne University twice, the first time with a BA in Drama Studies - which I obtained with the equivalent of a 2-1 - the second in Foreign Applied Languages specialising in translation. The languages I studied were English and Italian and I obtained this degree wiht a 2-1 honours as well. I've done various student jobs including cashiering and sales assisting. I've some experience with translation work as well as having privately taught English.

Teaching Experience:

I've spent last year teaching privately English in Paris to students aged 11-20. Some simply wanted to speed up their learning of English, most had difficulties with keeping up with school standards and one wanted help to prepare an entrance examination to the national marine service and had to train himself in TOEFL style exercises. All the lessons I gave privately with every student separately and I would visit them in their homes for the lessons.

Tutoring Approach:

When it comes to languages, I give a lot of emphasis on grammar and syntax to start with. I try to put this into application as much as posible as soon as possible by working on text comprehension and some short essay writing. I make it clear to students from the start that to improve they will need to do a fair amount of work at home every week although I explain that I don't want them to spend all their time on this. Most importantly, with students who face difficulties at school, I try to identify the problem as early as possible and concentrate on it. Most of the times this comes down to lack of motivation so I try to see what this is due to and to change it. Most of the times this is due to the students not getting enough attention fron their teacher in class so I try to compensate for this.
