Information About Paula:

Personal Description:

I am a qualified secondary school teacher, specialising in History and English Literature, although I have taught Journalism, Politics and RE. I have been tutoring for 10 years. I specialise in my core subjects and I am familiar with both the OCR and CCEA syllabus at both A' level and GCSE. I have also worked with pupils between the ages of 9 and 14 on reading and writing skills. As a dyslexic, myself I have created a number of successful coping strategies, which I use in my teaching methods. I believe that creating a secure and relaxed atmosphere through active teaching and learning techniques encourages pupils to enjoy learning and achieve more.

Teaching Experience:

Tutoring experience

Teaching History & English to A level, RE to GCSE and Citizenship to Key Stage 3 for the last 3 years. Currently working as a heritage educator with the NIEA.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer working on a one to one basis within a pupils home. In the case of exam prep I like to work through pass papers systematically, looking at exam and revision techniques as well as essential curriculum skills. In the case of specific learning needs, I will look first at learning strengths (ie, Visual Auditory or Kinaesthetic) before designing a programing to meet a pupils needs.
