Personal Description:

I am 33 years old and a former History teacher who is now retraining as a criminal barrister. I am well travelled and can speak French, Italian and German. I have a 2.1 BA Hons degree in History from Oxford and a Master in International Relations from the LSE. Since changing careers, I also now have a Graduate Diploma in Law and have passed the Bar Vocational Course; I was called to the Bar in October 2007. I love politics, current affairs and history and stood for Parliament representing the constituency of Islington North in the 2005 General Election. I am also a keen campaigner for environmental and feminist issues, and have advised the Conservative Party on environmental and sustainable energy policy.

Teaching Experience:

My first degree is in History, following which I obtained a Post-Graduate Certificate of Education at Bath University in Secondary History, which involved GCSE and A Level teaching. I then worked for 3 years as a History teacher at St George's British International School in Rome, becoming Head of History and teaching IGCSE and International Baccalaureate. During that time, I taught both small and large groups and also undertook one-to-one tutoring of students who needed extra coaching. I am a qualified examiner for the International Baccalaureate and have regularly marked examination papers. I also have experience in teaching English as a foreign language, both on a one-to-one basis and larger groups.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to inspire rather than instruct and would love to pass on my passion for History and Politics, preserving the sparkle of learning for anyone who feels oppressed by the burden of exams. That does not mean sacrificing the rigours of academic achievement but combining academic excellence with the fun of knowledge and understanding.
