Personal Description:
I am a 26 year old Australian who has been living in the UK for 2 years. I am a dietitian and I currently work for a pharmaceutical company. I am very interested in health and fitness and I love to travel to interesting places whenever I get the opportunity!
I am a happy, positive person and like to work hard but also take the time to enjoy life!
Teaching Experience:
In Australia I have tutored maths for 5 years. I have tutored 3 primary school children (aged 9 - 11 years) and 5 high school children (aged 12 - 16 years). All my students differed in ability and my approach to each child was unique. Whether it was helping with their homework, re-explaining new topics learnt in the classroom, working through many practice questions, or extending their knowledge by working through more difficult examples, I helped each child to become more confident in their maths abilities.
Tutoring Approach:
With so many new maths topics being introduced to children at school, often many children do not understand one topic, and then another one is being introduced. I think this can make the child feel very overwhelmed and they end up getting each new topic confused with the last!
When I tutor students, I hope to build their confidence so they feel like they can tackle any maths problem. This is particularly important for exams and tests. I try to explain new topics in simple terms and then make sure they have plenty of experience doing practice questions so they are familiar with the many ways in which the same question can be asked. I honestly believe 'practice makes perfect!'
