Personal Description:
I have taught for 33 years to University Entrance Standard, and hold degrees from the Universities of Lancaster and Bristol.
At the risk of being pretentious, I would quote Sir Thomas More: "I am a good teacher: I know it, my students know it, and God knows it. Not a bad public".
My pass rates for both my offered subjects are above national pass rates.
Teaching Experience:
33 years in a Grammar School & Sixth Form College.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe in the Socratic method i.e. teasing information from students who didn't realise they knew it. At the same time, I give students a thorough grounding in the subject with detailed handouts, clearly laid out notes with appropriate sub-sections, and up to date specialist articles.
Students would also be set a range of recent past-papers for homework, with great attention paid to the importance of examination technique. Examinations are as much technique as knowledge; it is invariably the case that students seeking additional tutoring have not been guided through certain essential steps e.g. how to structure essays, use documents, adduce up to date evidence.
