Amanda - Sheffield tutor

Information About Amanda:

Personal Description:

I have been a secondary school teacher for 6 years. I studied English and Theatre Studies for A level and at university. Whilst living in Galway I took a TEFL qualification and have taught 1-2-1 English as a foreign language in Sheffield. Throughout my teaching profession, I have had many groups at the lower end of the ability range. I am now teaching in a sixth form college and cover ESOL, Entry Level English and GCSE English language.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught both at Key Stage 3 and Key stage 4 at two separate secondary schools and have covered the AQA GCSE syllabus as well as OCR. I currently teach the EDEXCEL ESOL course, but have also tutored a student for her TOEFL exam. I have a wide range of resources.

Tutoring Approach:

My reasons for tutoring are to give more individual support that can not always be given in the classroom. Having taught large classes myself, I know that it is not always possible to deal with every enquiry and spend as much time as is necessary with every student. However, my aim is not to replace a teacher. It is essential that students still remain focussed in their lessons and use me to enhance and support the work so that their classroom experience is imrpoved. I am also happy to tutor students who do not attend a school.
