Information About Ciara:
Personal Description:
I am a young and enthusiastic musician and teacher. I have been playing piano now for 20 years (I started when I was 6). I also play flute and saxophone. I thoroughly enjoy music and am passionate about my subject! As I'm also a trained primary school teacher I can offer tuition across a wide range of subjects, in particular maths, english and science!
Teaching Experience:
Currently Head of Music in Belfast school. I have been a fully qualified classroom teacher for 3 years now. I obtained my music degree at the University of Ulster and went on to complete my PGCE primary teaching qualification at Canterbury ChristChurch University College, Kent.
I have been teaching piano privately for years, have completed 3 long-term temporary teaching contracts at 3 different schools in Northern Ireland - at secondary, grammar and integrated schools and have just secured a permanent position as the Head of Music in a local Belfast school. I believe that learning should be fun and the person I am helping out is central to my teaching methods.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe that learning should be fun. Whether you're learning piano, getting help with your GCSE composition, improving your English, Maths or Science, its essential that you are enjoying what you are doing and learning new skills along the way. I believe that our academic system is unfair to many students and too many pupils arrive at and then leave secondary school with poor literacy and numeracy skills and consequently with a lowered self-esteem. I want to be a part of helping young people to achieve their maximum potential and to feel empowered and confidently positive about themselves as they make their way into our demanding adult world.
