Isabelle - Cambridge tutor
Information About Isabelle:
Personal Description:
Hello!
I am an experienced teacher and tutor, newly arrived in Cambridge. Professionally, I have a fascination for Mathematics (my undergraduated studies) as much as for Economics (my master degree). Personally, I am passionate about bass guitar playing, running, and kitesurfing! I have many work experiences. From wading pool lifeguard to teacher, with even a daycare educator experience, I always worked with young people. I have also taught in many institutions, from secondary schools to universities, to students of all age groups. I am primarily specialized in the teaching of Mathematics and Economics. However, I also master the French language, my mother tongue, and I would be more than delighted to help you to learn this beautiful language.
Teaching Experience:
I have taught, during one year, a course of Statistics, and a course of introduction to research in Humanities and Social Sciences in a Canadian cegep (the United Kingdom equivalent of a Sixth Form College). Also, I have been a teaching assistant for a Microeconomic course at the University of Montreal, which required me to provide tutorial sessions and to grade exams. I have also taught Mathematics in two different secondary schools where, in addition, I have organized study groups for students with academic difficulties for more than a year. For many years now, I have been a tutor for students of all academic levels. I also have been a mentor for the association of Big Brothers and Big Sisters, in Montreal, during three years, providing help for disadvantaged teenagers in need of academic and moral support. A lot of those teenagers needed a lot of help with their French writing. I did a lot of grammar and writing exercises with them. Some of them also had many difficulties to read in French, so I helped them with that too.
Tutoring Approach:
My tutorial approach is flexible enough to fit every kind of student's learning style. I am a really structured teacher and I prepare my tutoring sessions with care in order to adapt them to the precise needs of the student. My first priority is to create an atmosphere of trust, and to communicate my enthusiasm about the subject I teach. This goes naturally for me since I am still young (27th years old) and very sociable. I am also very creative. I have developed, with all my tutoring experience, many approaches to explain the different mathematic or economic concepts. My teaching experience allows me to quickly identify the weakness of my students and to help them improve. I think the best way to progress is to practice, so I usually provide many selected exercises. I am also really sensitive about my tutee's feedback and I can adapt the tutoring sessions following their comments.
