Personal Description:

I attended St George's College, Weybridge, and then subsequently Trinity College, University of Oxford where I completed my undergraduate degree in English Language and Literature. I am now completing a Masters part-time at Wolfson College, Cambridge in Advanced Subject Teaching. I also hold the Open University MA in English.

After graduation I worked at a large Academy in South-East London where I was part of the management team, specifically with responsibility for Gifted and Talented provision.

Unsurprisingly for an English teacher I love reading and the theatre, but I try to spend my holidays and free-time outdoors.

Teaching Experience:

I am a full-time English teacher working in a large, HMC independent school. I teach ages 11-18 English Language and English Literature. As part of my role I am involved in the marking and setting of entrance exams, as well as moderation of coursework and other assessments.

I am currently an examiner for AS English Literature and have previously examined A2 English.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the best tutoring occurs when there are focused objectives and the student is motivated to learn. To ensure every student is motivated I work hard to build confidence with a variety of activities and a positive approach that is full of praise. I work carefully within the assessment objectives set down for each exam or task to ensure that the time is used most effectively.

I have experience of individual tuition for 11+, 13+, GCSE, A-Level and Oxbridge. I have also successfully mentored students for entry into Yale and other Ivy League schools, helping them structure their admissions essays and projects. I have supervised students at residential revision schools in Hampshire and Essex, as well as having tutored 25 3-day holiday and weekend sessions for a major revision company.
