Peter - Cheltenham tutor

Information About Peter:

Personal Description:

I am an undergraduate at Cambridge University, where I study Classical and Modern Chinese in the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies. During my first two years at Cambridge I was given a First and two scholarships. My course includes ancient and post-Cultural Revolution Chinese literature, modern putonghua and the history of globalisation. I have extensive experience travelling in China and a wide range of interests in both the study of Mandarin and the culture behind it.

Teaching Experience:

When I first travelled to China I lived in Kunming University and learned Mandarin. I returned to the south of China two years later to teach English to underprivileged teenagers in Guangxi. Both experiences equipped me to understand the most efficient methods of learning Chinese and the most effective ways to teach it. I am TEFL-certificated, with seven months' experience of teaching English as a foreign language.

Tutoring Approach:

As a native English speaker I can offer extremely effective teaching based on my experience as a Western learner of Chinese. In particular, I offer a sympathetic approach to the more vexing aspects of the Chinese script and intonation. I can also give tailored advice on university application for Asian studies.
