Information About Alice:

Personal Description:

My name is Alice Westcott and I am 23 years old. I went to high school at Roundwood Park School in Harpenden and passed all 11 of my GCSEs. I then went onto Shuttleworth College and spent two completing a National Diploma (BETEC) in Animal Management and gained the grade M,P,P. This was more of a hobby to me and not a career choice which gained me the equilvalent of 3 A-levels which got me onto my university course. I then went straight into University of Bedfordshire and studied BA (Hons) Applied Education Studies where I completed the following modules:

- Developing Teaching
- Managing the Learning Environment
- Skills for Teaching
- English Language, Mathematics and General Science for Teachers
- Reflecting on Practice
- Personalised Learning
- The Wider Curriculum and Research in Schools
- Approaches to Learning
- Teaching Mathematical Problem Solving
- English Literature for Teachers
- Professional Practice in Schools
- Research Methods
- Research Project

I spent 4 years at a special needs school for children with moderate learning difficulties where I would carry out my observational based assignments. I would plan and teach a variety of lessons where the teacher would observe me and give me my good and bad points with areas to work on.

I went to Tanzania in September 2010 for two months where I carried out voluntary teaching. I would work with the children in a small concentrate block room with 27 children from the ages 2-6 years old. I loved every minute of it and would love to go again in the near future!
I have completed a British Red Cross Emergency at Work First Aid Course in June 2010.

I am also learning basic British Sign Language which I throughly enjoy!

Teaching Experience:

4 years at a special needs school for children with moderate learning difficulties.

2 months in Tanzania, teaching children Mathematics, English and also the children's very first Art lesson!

I have been tutoring for a year now and I can provide references from the parents and the primary students.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to make learning as fun as possible by including games and activities into the lessons, as it makes the learning more enjoyable to the children which is ALWAYS a good thing.

Each lesson is planned and personalised to each child's profile, this will be discussed during a first meeting between myself, the student and the parent/guardian.

With most of my students I try to work on their confidence in the subject, this is always a good starting point which will help make the student feel more at ease during the lessons as well as being able to use new techniques in and out of school.
