Personal Description:

I am a 38 year old female qualified teacher of Chemistry and General Science; I am also available to teach maths, study skills and common entrance preparation. I live in Ringwood but work in Southampton, and so am willing to tutor in either area as well as online. I am a very motivated individual with a passion for my subject and I really enjoy bringing out the best in my students.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for sixteen years and completed my teaching qualification at Oxford University in 2006. I currently teach all years of secondary up to Sixth Form in a selective independent school, but I have had experience of a wide range of teaching environments including Sixth Form Colleges and international schools. This means that I also have experience of all the major exam boards and of International Baccalaureate and IGCSE qualifications. I currently teach the Edexcel syllabus at A Level, but have worked as both an examiner and resource developer for OCR meaning that I have kept current with changes to the A Level specifications. I have worked with pupils with a range of special educational needs as well as the very able and those for whom English is a second language.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a very patient and organised person who particularly excels in enabling students to work through problems for themselves and arrive at an answer without being 'spoonfed'. In my tutoring sessions students are encouraged to think for themselves and to come up with ways of linking information in order to improve retention and understanding. I also have experience in delivering 'study skills' techniques that will allow students to make more progress in all their subjects.
