Information About Vanessa:

Personal Description:

My name is Vanessa, I am from Spain and have been living in the UK for the past 9 years. I have been working as a teacher for 11 years and now I have decided to start tutoring so I can go back to studying.

Teaching Experience:

I qualified as a Modern Foreign Language teacher in Spain and worked in secondary schools in my country and in France. In 2007 I moved to the UK where I was awarded QTS and started as a supply teacher in primary until I became a full time Early Years and primary teacher. I have taught all years in primary, I am very familiar with the EYFS Early Learning Goals and the new National Curriculum.

Tutoring Approach:

In all the years I have been teaching in primary I have seen many children who are below the average level of their class and children whose potential is not being appropriately exploited. My idea is to find the gaps in the foundations of their Maths and English (grammar, reading and writing) and help them close such gaps so those foundations are solid and can be built on, in the case of children who are not quite there yet. In the case of children who have the potential to achieve higher than average, my approach is to move them forward by identifying what the next steps are and providing them with activities that are challenging but achievable.
In my experience, with primary age children the most significant learning comes from hands on experience, hence my way of teaching and helping students always involve materials, games and activities that children can enjoy and explore as well as becoming the leaders of their own learning.
