Information About Margaret:

Personal Description:

I am a self employed professional lady working flexibly from my own home. I am a tutor, trainer, adviser with over 15 years experience working for further education colleges, evening class providers and private training organisations. All my daily work requires the use of a range of computer tools such as email, internet, word processing, desktop publishing and presentations.

I have two strands to my professional work. I help businesses with environmental management and setting up an environmental managment system called ISO14001. This work often involves developing training courses using PowerPoint and other computer software and delivering training to the workforce. Over the years I have become increasingly interested in using computers for research and delivering training. So much so that I have gained the Adult and Further Education Teachers' Certificate (City and Guilds 7307), the JEB Teacher Trainer Diploma in Information Technology Skills and the Certificate in Online Tutoring Skills. I have put my enthusiasm for the use of IT and helping people to learn to develop the second stand to my work which is computer training. I enjoy helping people in their own home to get the best out of their computers and providing training for business users who want to undertake day to day adminsitration jobs using IT.

If you are looking to understand the environment and earth sciences and how pollution or waste can be better controlled by businesses, my environmental science degree and my subsequent work in pollution control could help your school work, academic study or care for the environment in the workplace.

Teaching Experience:

I was employed for 10 years by Worcester College of Technology as a trainer. I now continue training and advisory work on a self-employed basis. I have also worked for other colleges, private training providers, Birmingham City Council, etc. as a part time trainer for environmental and computer courses. I am a qualified assessor and verifier for NVQs (National Vocational Qualifications) and work as an external verifier for the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM). This role involves checking on the quality of training courses that are approved by the Institute. I am a full member of the ILM and the Institute for Learning.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning should be enjoyable and fulfilling. I bring this philosophy, a sense of humour and patience to all my teaching.

Needing computer skills for all my work has shown me how vital it is today to get to grips with the basics of IT so whether you just want to surf the net, email a friend or prepare a detailed report for a director you'll need IT skills just as much as the 3Rs. I really enjoy working with people to help them to learn and this enjoyment means that I will be enthusiastic and sympathetic as I help you to improve your computer skills. I would be happy to come to your home or place of work at a time to suit you and to give you the help that you need to progress at your own pace.

If you're looking for help with environment science, environmental management and earth sciences, I bring the same enthusiasm for teaching and learning and would be delighted to share my knowledge in this field.
