Wendy - Sidmouth tutor
Information About Wendy:
Personal Description:
After working as an engineer for 9 years I retrained to teach in a secondary school. This I have been doing for the past 14 years. Five years ago the family and I emigrated to Australia where I taught the International Baccalaureate and the Australian Higher National Certificate (fairly similar to the English A level system). My husband and I decided to return to the UK in 2010 initially in Suffolk but we have now settled in Devon.
Teaching Experience:
I have taught Mathematics throughout the age range from the start of my teaching career but with my engineering background I started to teach Physics five years ago. I have taught at HSc level in Australia and the early core, mechanics and decision maths modules of the A level. I recently taught Physics and Mathematics to GCSE but I have extensive knowledge of the A level Mathematics course and have tutored this level for many years. In my new job I am teaching mathematics only to GCSE and the mechanics and decision modules of the A level.
Tutoring Approach:
I like to tutor one to one although I have also tutored groups very successfully. I am happy to devise a revision course but find that tutoring works more successfully if the student is able to dictate the areas of difficulty they are experiencing. Targeting these areas will then often highlight gaps in the students prior knowledge which can then be addressed. Students are often overloaded with school or college work so I tend not to set additional homework unless requested but will offer optional revision or practise sheets that can prove invaluable to the student later on.

- BSc in Technology Engineering
