Nicola - Erskine tutor
Information About Nicola:
Personal Description:
I am currently studying politics and psychology at university degree level. However i have achieved an A at higher and/or first year university level for art, modern studies, politics, sociology, and psychology, and can teach children / adolescents up to the first year university level. I am an easy-going, highly organised patient individual, and I enjoy the challenge of teaching students how to understand, and enjoy certain subjects!
Teaching Experience:
I have teaching experience with small groups of primary aged children, mainly at reading and language skills. However, I do volunteer at a local youth club where I interact with around thirty 10-17 year old children on a weekly basis. During these sessions I receive many academic and real life problems/situations that I help solve. I also participate with study groups at university, where I work as a team to tackle problems relating to coursework!
Tutoring Approach:
My first lesson will be free of charge. In this time I will talk with the parent (of children at school level) and pupil, discussing problematic areas of coursework. Parents or pupils will then let me know how many lessons they are looking for, what they want to achieve etc. I will then make up a mock timetable, marking out what I want to achieve in each lesson. My lessons will depend on each subject. My lesson will roughly follow as (dependent on subject);
1. I will give student back mark from 'test', and we will discuss, work out wrongly done questions.
2. I will give explanation of problem area, with real life simple examples, and examples from textbooks.
3. Students can ask me any questions.
4. Students will do small test on what has been taught. This will illustrate to me whether the student has grasped what I have taught them, and allow me to mark it for our next section, beginning our next section on what they have got wrong.
Students will also receive photocopies of relevant book chapters / exam papers / study tips etc.
Each session will last for an hour, and will be priced at 10ph.
