Personal Description:

I am a fun-loving, vibrant tutor with a passion for languages and different cultures. I have a wide range of cultural experience including living in Spain and Latin America; Brazil, Costa Rica and Ecuador where I partook in an array of social projects and travelled extensively. I obtained a 2;1 Joint Honours degree from the University of Leeds in Portuguese and Spanish with an elective in French and a distinction in spoken Portuguese. I have recently completed a PGCE in Modern Languages at secondary level teaching Spanish and French. I will taylor lessons to suit individual needs concentrating on the areas of your choice.

March 2010 - July 2010: Teaching Assistant, New College School, Oxford
Helping children in all areas of curriculum; assisting with preparation of learning environment; liaising with parents; maintaining pupil's records & carrying out administrative tasks; supporting children who have difficulties or those who speak English as a second language.

5th July -15th Sept 09 Language coach Hi School Language School, So Paulo, Brazil.
Providing intensive English courses for beginners, intermediate & advanced levels; teacher training in classroom management (time management & classroom psychology); conversation & grammar for working professionals;weekend English immersions (no exposure to mother-tongue.)

September 08-June 09 British Council English teacher/U.K Ambassador Universidad catlica, Ambato, Ecuador. (Obtained 5/5 in a teacher evaluation by the students regarding creating teaching methods and for how I interacted on a personal level.)
Detailed lesson planning on database; teaching English (pronunciation & grammar) using creative methods (such as games, group work, debates, self-correction & pair analysis); Carrying out oral exams & supervision of written exams; marking and grading exams (in some cases up to 120) within a limited time frame (48 hours); writing reports and evaluations of exams. Organising culture week & giving talk on British culture in the university auditorium. (Despite program being named Teacher Assistantship, all responsibilities listed were with no assistance!)

2009 Feb-June English teacher and carer Don Bosco, Ambato, Ecuador.
Aiding to teach, and help in any way possible with project which supported disadvantaged children, as well as those from the streets. (Morning sessions.)

2005 Sept- May 2006. English teacher (children aged 6-12.) Instituto Dois Irmos, Rocinha, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. (Evening classes, 6pm-8pm)
Helped to support educational advances in the favela with children from families living below the poverty line in order to keep children off the streets and avoid involvement in drug gangs.

2005 Sept 1st -Dec 15th English teacher & carer of children (aged 0-13.) Unio Pr-Melhoramentos da Roupa Suja Creche Comunitria, Rocinha, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Helping to look after children from deprived families to enable parents to go to work.

2003 June 22nd-July 24th English language assistant. Presbtero Manuel Bernardo Gmez School, Palmares, Costa Rica. Teaching students (aged 8-11) the importance of learning English as a second language as well as developing certain levels in grammar, phonology & vocabulary.

Tutoring Approach:

I tailor the lessons as required to focus on either grammar, listening or conversion, or a combination of the three. My aim is to try to make the lessons as fun as possible and as relevant to every day life as I can.
