Darnelle - Liverpool tutor
Information About Darnelle:
Personal Description:
I have recently completed my BSc in Chemistry at the University of Manchester.
Currently I am taking a gap year before persuing a career path in teaching. I have varied interests which not only relate to my own field of Chemistry, but also relate to psychology, and literature. In my gap year I hope to travel to different places in Europe and work, while gaining more teaching experience and establishing myself as a tutor. I am dedicated to learning more about my subject just for my own interest, and learning more about education in general, and so I often keep up with new education techniques.
Teaching Experience:
My teaching experience comes from working with a wide range of young people; from all ages, backgrounds and abilities in all subject matter for the past 5 years or my life. I have worked in Tate Gallery Liverpool on projects geared around including and educating 'alternative youths' in art and all of its associated fields. While at university I was part of the student ambassador scheme which allowed me participate in a large range of activities such as university taster summer schools, museum summer sessions and homework clubs. During this time I also participated in Outreach and Reachout Programmes which, in this case, involved running lab base workshops for KS3-KS4 and above pupils, going into schools and giving practical demonstrations and mentoring.
Tutoring Approach:
I have found that the teaching of scientific subjects can be quite stoic, and so I attempt to make them more flexible, fun, and relevant. Each student is individual, and so a lesson needs to be tailored specifically to them. The best thing about having a personal tutor, is that they are able to take the necessary time with the student to really adapt to their style of learning. Teachers in schools are unable to do this, often to the detriment of some students. Requiring extra help is nothing at all to be ashamed of... That is the best thing about being a personal tutor, it allows me all the time in the world to really focus on giving my best to inviduals.
