Sophie - Newcastle upon Tyne tutor

Information About Sophie:

Personal Description:

I am currently a second year law student at the University of Newcastle, working towards being a barrister. My exam results and coursework are at a 2:1 standard and I am in the top third of my year. I recently won the Client Interviewing competition out of 150 students in the law school and for this achievement my name was placed on the honour board. Before coming to university I worked in a highly pressurised environment in central London and developed my communication skills with people of a range of calibres.
I have played the piano since the age of eleven and achieved a grade six standard which led on to several solo and accompaniment performances in school concerts. This combined with public speaking at large events such as prize givings and school elections has increased my confidence, improved my debating skills and poise.
I played cricket for Hertfordshire County and Bishop's Stortford town for several years until knee injuries interrupted my participation. I hope to return to cricket when possible. I achieved first place in javelin at District Athletics, the Nikki Morris challenge and Queenswood tournament and I have participated in sports teams throughout my time at school
In my spare time I juggle, play chess and write, I am currently writing a stage adaptation to 1984.

Teaching Experience:

I spent 4 months working in a temporary post as an art technician and teaching and special needs assistant. During my senior year at school I spent several of my free periods assisting a special needs child during his science lessons, helping him with reading, writing and maintaining his focus. I myself have a brother with special needs and I helped him with his English and history work in out of school hours.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in the value of patience. If a child does not understand something then I adopt a different approach of conveying information until they understand in full detail. Tutoring is one to one, a child should get the special attention that they deserve with the subject matter tailored in a way that they can connect with.
I believe in bringing a subject to life with passion and enthusiasm, usually a subject is only as interesting as its teacher.
With the subjects that I offer I place great emphasis on the structure of written work, a skill that once learnt will certainly achieve better grades and will develop useful skills in all walks of life e.g. analytical thinking and communication.
