Robin - Bristol tutor

Information About Robin:

Personal Description:

I was born and went to school in Germany and studied philosophy in Scotland. I have worked as an English and German language teacher, translator, and in marketing, finance and customer service.

I have extensive experience in one-to-one language tuition to adults.

I have twice worked with teenagers and children, during my social service year in Germany (1997 to 1998) and in a summer camp in 2002.

I have a wide range of interests. My first degree was in philosophy and incorporated two years of politics. Since 2008 I have been studying music part-time. I am now a postgraduate music student at the University of Bristol.

Teaching Experience:

English as a Foreign Language: 5 years, in France, Spain, Argentina and the UK.
German as a Foreign Language: 1 year, in Spain.

From 2003 to 2006 I was a part-time Kitchen Manager in an organisation that employed a large number of volunteers, many of them students, but also including teenagers, disabled people and volunteers on Jobseekers' Allowance. My main duty was to train all the volunteers who joined.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach varies from student to student. I always start with a thorough needs analysis to find out which skills exactly the student needs to acquire, in what time period. Then I do some research and start to plan a curriculum around those needs.

The individual classes can be free-flowing, or more structured, depending on the student's preferences. If there is a concrete goal to achieve, this will generally help the student focus his or her efforts.
