Katie - Exeter tutor

Information About Katie:

Personal Description:

I am a recent 1st class graduate from Exeter University where a studied Biological Sciences. I am currently a research scientist at Exeter University with teaching responsibilities. Always passionate about science and teaching I enjoy helping students to understand trickier areas of science and my enthusiasm normally rubs off.

Teaching Experience:

As I am looking into becoming a teacher after my PhD I have always been involved with schools and young people. I have taught small groups of biosciences undergraduates helping them through laboratory practicals and whilst preparing for exams. I have also taught several lessons in secondary schools at GCSE level and given practical lessons to A level students on my subject area of research. Most recently I gave private tuition to two students who had missed 3 modules of GCSE science and helped them to catch up with their classmates.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a relaxed and friendly approach to tutoring, I believe students learn better when they are enjoying themselves so I'll always try to make things memorable by involving a practical aspect to my lessons or by doing lots of trial exam questions so students learn how to conquer their exams without stress and with confidence. As I am still younger than most students current teachers I am able to command respect from students but make things fun and this makes for a good working relationship between tutor and student. I try from the onset to identify key areas that the most attention and work with the student to refine these areas.
