Leah - Sydenham tutor
Information About Leah:
Personal Description:
I am a prize winning graduate of the Slade School of Art and Glasgow School of Art and have been a practicing artist for a number of years. I have acquired a good bank of professional experience having exhibited locally and abroad, and have supported my practice with part time teaching and play work. I am currently working towards becoming a full time art teacher and feel that teaching is an important and rewarding side to my practice.
My work is in a fairly traditional style, I work in oils and watercolour and consider good drawing to be central to my work. As a contemporary artist my research involves computer based digital photography and video. I have a good working knowledge of both Photoshop and Final Cut pro.
Teaching Experience:
My experience involves both individual tutoring to build students portfolios for application to courses, extra curricular and holiday classes for all ages and play based learning with younger children and todlers. I have taught at A-level, Scottish higher and GCSE levels and have plenty of experience with exam preparation, more recently I have taught home educated children of various ages. I have drawn on my sewing and tailoring experience to teach fashion design as well as fine art to great success. I have also lead group life drawing classes and taught painting and drawing to adults at home.
Tutoring Approach:
My philosophy is that the needs of individual students is central and that engendering enthusiasm and personal motivation will guarantee success. Good art is the result of a confident use of materials and creative freedom. I ensure the students develop a high level of skill as a basis to the creatively inspired responses to fun challenging projects. For younger children I work through story telling, drawing and play to encourage and develop their creativity in responding to the projects and the materials as well as their wider environment.
Through the course of the lessons students will develop a strong body of work as well as a good knowledge of past and contemporary art. Students may then go onto apply for further courses or continue producing work for personal fulfillment.
