Personal Description:

I am 28 years old, married, with two small children. I enjoy reading, writing, running and travelling although with a young family, the latter is becoming less frequent.

I studied History at the University of Hull gaining a 2:1 with honours before going on to complete my PGCE is History and Citizenship at Newcastle University in 2003. I moved to South Yorkshire 6 years ago where I began my career in a local secondary school.

Teaching Experience:

During my PGCE I completed two teaching placements at Park View Secondary School in Chester le Street and Gosforth High School in Newcastle. I currently work at Rawmarsh Community School where I teach History, Geography and Religious Studies. I am also Head of PSHE and Citizenship and have developed a Citizenship GCSE, which we are enjoying considerable success in. All of the above subject I have taught at Key Stage 3 and GCSE level.

For three years I was an assistant examiner in History for OCR so understand how to achieve good grades in examinations.

Tutoring Approach:

Being an experienced teacher I am aware that all students have different learning styles. I therefore always try to adapt my teaching to suit an individual's learning style to ensure they achieve their maximum potential. I believe in allowing the student a certain amount of freedom in setting the agenda as they usually understand where their needs are greatest. However, I will assess and monitor their progression to ensure that all areas of weakness are covered. I am willing to check coursework, prepare students for a particular exam or can even off help with general revision techniques.

Qualifications:

• 9 GCSEs at 'A' grade inc English, Maths, Science and History.
• 4 'A' levels including English and History
• BA Hons (2:1) in History
• PGCE in History and CItizenship
